    P38A sluggish running

O.o ok now I'm intrigued. my 97, with air con, has the brown single pin, then a green, then a black with nothing to connect to it. Is it at all possible that they fitted the black one for the fun of it in 97? otherwise, wtf is in my 97? sure don't look like its the original head at least :/

Advice requested after losing licence due to medical reason

hmmm...bad spot bud really sorry to hear. I cant remember the guys name at the minute but there is a brit that competes in drift racing with no arms. He drives with his feet believe it or not! It seems to me that having a disability isn't the end for motoring interest. I'll try and find him but...

    P38 Rescue

Yeah I have had my suspicions about the rr being de-tuned for a while. Lots of posts all over the Internet about using a psi motorsport chip set and seeing returns a 38 mpg. Once I have the engine rebuilt I'm thinking of remapping.

Technical data valve springs bmw m51 engine

well that is a way of measuring the 'springyness' left in it. I have worked on BMW's before and they do like measuring distances between things such as the distance between two links in the timing chain for acceptable stretch. Do you have those specs to hand? Wouldn't be different between a BMW...

Just an update. The new /old head has arrived today and gosh darn it its good! gonna lap the valves and r&r the valve seals. Really want to do the valve guides and cam bearings but I'm way over budget so its gonna have to do for now. I'm confident it will run, if all be it rough, and give me...

    Electrical Issue! Oh My God

Good info! I'm guessing this applies to the P38 as well? Im still on bags but I have seen a few conversions. Nice to have this in the knowledge bank for future ref. Im yet to see if my new 110AH 950cca is gonna drain so this is really helpful.

Technical data valve springs bmw m51 engine

Hi guys. Been trolling teh intrenet and I'm having a bit of difficulty finding valve spring height data for the 2.5 diesel bmw m51 as fitted to the rr p38. Land rover service manual doesnt have it. Im in the middle of rebuilding my new/old head and I want to check the springs. Any ideas what the...

    Td5 clutch bleeding problems

ahh...in that case, I would double check that the throw out bearing is sitting in the clutch fork properly. usually there is a set of tines either side of the bearing that need to be clipped into springs on the clutch fork. it can pop out and spin round so fork doesnt drive the throw out...

    Td5 clutch bleeding problems

Im not sure if this applies to the disco slave ,however, usually a slave has a threaded rod that thrusts the clutch fork. To give you an idea of what Im on about, the slave body is roughly cylindical with a bleed nipple and supply pipe at one end and at the other end is a short rod sticking out...

    P38 Rescue

yeah rob but it is usually followed by an over heating issue. In this case however, I suspect that he has run bio diesel that was methanol based ie..home made. There is evidence in the cylinders above the compression line of a moisture and acid production during combustion. I have also seen...

    P38 Rescue

ok ty for that. yeah thats not gonna work out for me. I dont have the space for a second car let alone one I just pulled to bits. the cost of coming down there, driving back, taxing, and then getting the carcass removed will be far more than a second hand head. cheers for offering though.

is the head on that the same? I have seen the head gaskets etc sold as bmw/rr/omega but I havent looked further. Other problem is I am in scotland so getting a whole engine here a bit more expensive than a head. whats he want for it?

    P38A Autobox issue 4.0 1997 se petrol

Wow! anything is possible. If the wiring loom was cut it will most likely have sent a signal the wrong way when it went. ecu would not like that. I have a similar prob on mine. Fortunately it was just the auto sump and front trans mounts that took the hit. Im not showing any trans faults though...

    P38 Non starter.

Yup. For one reason or another your lift pump isn't working. You will need to put a jack under your fuel tank and lower the tank. This is tough and heavy. Get help. Once it is lowered enough to reach the connector for the pump, disconnect it and test for voltage with a meter when the key is...
