    Empty holes

Like said, they are used to bolt the support bracket for gearbox removal. There is mention of this in RAVE but you'll need to fabricate it yourself as apparently it's not something you can just buy. As for the specs, they are protected by the JLR Secrets Act and won't be disclosed anytime soon :)

Disco 1 Radius arm bush replacement

I'd say if you can, get yourself a 20 ton press and you'll be set for a thousand other jobs besides this one. They are affordable (€200), take very little space and you also get a 20 ton hydraulic jack in the process. I got one when I needed to change the bushes on the Watts linkage and for such...

Disco 2 anti-rust protection on brake lines

No worries SF, it was meant as a figure of speech in the sense that don't expect miracles if you have anything other than surface corrosion as it won't penetrate beyond a fraction of a mm. I have used Dinitrol, Kurust and Rust-Oleum RCs, the latter I found is a better performer, but that's my...

Disco 2 anti-rust protection on brake lines

My experience is not so good with any of these products - they only work great if you don't have rust to begin with. Then one day I think I was at Lidl and seen this zinc galvanising spray, so I said I'd try it. And I'm amazed at the results - I applied it on the exhaust pipes, silencers and the...

    Steering box alignment disco 2

I measured the ball joints on some old drag links and track rods that I have around and they all come up with 17.8mm cone size. Then I checked what's the story with the drop arms and there seems to be 2 types available on this site - https://www.sp-4x4.com/category_s/831.htm As to why there...

    Steering box alignment disco 2

2 part numbers are given for the D2 RHD drag link - QHG100000 [ - (V)1A719661 ] QHG000040 [ (V)1A719662 - ] If you look for this drag link Febi Bilstein 176065, it says that its compatible with both LR parts numbers above and the ball joint has a cone size of 17.8mm at its widest point.

    Steering box alignment disco 2

Thank you. That's very informative and helpful. I'll certainly file it for future reference. And sorry if I might be missing something but the one bit that's confusing me right now is when you say - "the thing to remember is the Drag link adjusts the near side wheel the tie bar adjusts the...

    Steering box alignment disco 2

Usually they don't unless they feel being generous, which is rare ! But centralising the steering wheel is not a big deal - I've outlined the process above and it's just a matter of test driving the vehicle and refining the adjustment on the drag link. It's very hard to get things spot on by...

    Steering box alignment disco 2

Assuming that the tracking is correct (should be if it was aligned before you started work and you didn't touch the track rod), this is what I normally do - 1. Drive the front wheels in straight ahead position on some cardboard to reduce contact friction with the ground 2. Do not remove wheels...

    D2 TD5 High coolant temperature

He's right on that one. In fact, G13 is more "organic" than ordinary OAT since glycerine is a bi-product of bio-diesel and not toxic as ethylene glycol. So although both types of coolant are classified as OAT, they use different antifreeze agents which is what glycerine and ethylene glycol are.

    D2 TD5 High coolant temperature

The chemical properties of the coolant mix that you're using are quite different from those recommended for the TD5, which could be the reason why you're seeing this odd behaviour. G13 coolant is based on Glycerin whereas the recommended OAT should contain Ethylene Glycol. Also distilled water...

    Bottle Jack seals

Very true. LR have turned "chasing leaks" into an art form. Pity you don't find it where it's most needed - on the rear chassis :)

    Bottle Jack seals

Well, let's say that if water gets in that compartment, I'll probably have bigger worries given that's where the ECU is located.
