Freelander 1 Looking for help with engine codes and limp mode issue

The speed sensor code is thrown up by the gearbox when F4 comes on. This can be ignored. The speed sensor is one of 3 in the gearbox, used by the tcm ti determine gear changes, it'll be fine. The actual sensors that may need looking at are the abs sensors. One for each wheel, but these would...

    Freelander 1 Skinny Mike's TD4 ES Auto

So back after my caravan excursion. Woke up to snow this morning and had to pack the caravan up in snow and rain, lovely. Anyway, the Hippo has been sat unused since last Tuesday, 6 days. Got in it to get some food shopping (beer) and it started straight up and drove great again. All I did to...

When mine went tits up, it produced loads of codes, not quite that many, but not far off. If you can get your hands on a second hand display binnacle, try it before you tip the car to bits. Mike

Hhmmm, Land Rover car, BMW engine, Mazda derived Jatco gearbox. More like cross your fingers shift. Although, this is the one part of my auto system that hasn't ever failed......yet. :) Mike

The tiptronic is usually a switch issue under the gear selector panel. Just a thought. Have you tried removing the TCM computer, leaving it off the car over night, then put it back on. It's highly doubtful this will fix it. But it's free to try. Mike

    Freelander 1 Bearmach Propshaft

As both props are balanced, it is possible they're balanced to each other. So as you've fitted a new front, the rear is now slightly out. Doubful I know, a balanced prop is balanced to itself. So either the rear prop has become unbalanced somehow, or part of the rear diff setup is wonky. Mike

    Non starter, can’t connect to ecu mk1 TD4 2006

Ok, check the 12v feed to the pump just to eliminate that. Out of interest, have you jump started another car off yours recently? Mike

    Non starter, can’t connect to ecu mk1 TD4 2006

If the engine check light comes on, this would indicate some function from the ECU. If it didn't come on, that would suggest a dead ECU. Also some accessories would pack up. Have you tested the new pump on a 12v feed? It could be a dead replacement ( not uncommon) The temp gauge could be a...

Does the engine check light come on and stay on or extinguish. Does it come on at all? With the power turned on, does the radio work? power windows? Indicator's? Or do parts of the car appear dead? Mike

Yup, I think 'bracing' is the word! Just don't tell anyone I'm in the caravan with the central heating cranked up and the dog sat on my feet. Drinking lots of tea as well :) Mike

    Noisy Freelander 1

Give the rear prop a waggle close to the rear dif. You'll probably find the front dif mount has perished. Quite a common fault. Mike

    VCU question

I like the stop sign coming out the roof, handy that, think I'll fit one. There is a G4 copy Freelander knocking round Sheffield, see it near work sometimes. Its the wrong colour of orange, so you can't miss it. Makes me cringe every time I see it. But whatever makes people happy. Some people...

Ok. But before you do, check all computer connections, under the dash and in the engine bay. Also as a last ditch effort, unplug the battery, put it on charge, then reconnect. This might just kick start the system. Mike

Freelander 1 Looking for help with engine codes and limp mode issue

Doesn't need programming. Just plug it in. There isn't a way to test it unfortunately, unless you have a mate that'll lend you one. I bought one second hand as there is no way to guarantee success. It just shows a different mileage now which wasn't a problem for the M.O.T, but could be an issue...

You have checked all the fuses? Under the bonnet and in the glove box. If the computer isn't talking Relay No 4 in the engine fuse box and fuses F14/F15 would stop it. Mike

Yup, it was replacing the ipack (display binnacle) that sorted it. The canbus uses it as a hub for communication. Mike
