What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Be aware that the preload of the Railko bush is not the same as the one with twin bearings. The preload for the twin bearings is around 1.6kg where the Railko is around 4kg. This needs to be checked as its totally from memory and is definitely not the actual figures. Also the load needs to be...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

I must admit I used Timken bearings and Corteco seals after seeing comments about Britpart in various threads. I really couldn't say what the difference will be and for the mileage I do it probably wouldn't have made much difference to me. I did pack them well with grease mind. I find the...

    Swivel housing experts needed

One more thing to take into consideration. This forum is a great source of information as are the youtube posters Britannica Restorations and trailer fitters toolbox. However sometimes people share information that they believe to be correct but may not be accurate for your vehicle due to...

    Swivel housing experts needed

Have a look at this thread from when I was in a similar situation to you. The last post has a link to the kit I bought. My axles have the Railko non abs swivels. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/what-swivels-have-i-got.374002/ Many defenders are "bitsas". They have had so many parts...

    Seized caliper bolts

Just for a bit more detail on what I delt with for you to understand the difference in bolts. I did both swivels and both calipers. The side that wouldn't come off had the original early M12x1.25 bolts. I had purchased the wrong ones so had to buy another set to fit the caliper - however, I...

    Seized caliper bolts

As far as I can remember it is the part that is threaded not the caliper. My bolts would not come out. I ended up cutting my caliper in half to get to the rear of the bolt. Mine required heat, penetrating fluid, drilling the bolt from the the rear to about 6.5mm diameter and still I broke one...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

I did my swivels and calipers about a couple of years ago now. I think the swivels are a 14mm bi-hex fitting. You can't get a socket on them and I used an aviation spanner to start them off then a reversible ratchet spanner to undo them. It's important that it's reversible as if you undo it too...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Went for its mot today (well yesterday) - passed with no advisories - well chuffed 😀 Typically, checked lights etc the night before and all OK. Morning of the mot started journey to garage, turned left ok, turn right and indicators going 20 to the dozen! Somehow the rear offside lamp holder...

    Overheating 300TDI

As far as I am aware the 300tdi uses the blue coolant. Ethylene glycol I think it is. Its what I used in my 300tdi and I would rather have used the OAT due to it having a 4 year life versus the 2 year life of blue. Apparently the OAT type can ruin seals in the 300tdi - but please check for...

    Overheating 300TDI

I hope its a fix for you but also consider the low coolant alarm as it gives peace of mind. Have a look at the condition of your hoses too as you don't want to get the radiator off and not be able to refit it due to a perished hose or broken hose clip.

    Overheating 300TDI

Have you looked at your radiator to check it's OK. They often look fine at the front but when you touch the fins at the rear they turn to dust. On both my RRCand my defender they were both like this. When taken out and you poked the fins between the tubes, the fins just turn to dust in a pile...

Brake lights always on after jet clean, electrical issue on my 90 300 TDI pickup.

I had a similar situation when I replaced my rear crossmember. Found the loom had already been cut for a previous crossmember change. The rear section of the loom was certainly looking tired and I came to the conclusion that keeping it was likely to cause future wiring issues. The wire's had...

    Overheating 300TDI

One of the first things I did with my 300tdi was fit a coolant level alarm. It's definitely worth considering doing. I had a slight leak on mine. I topped up regularly and wasn't doing long trips so was not too worried about it. I did a small journey after checking my coolant level (was only...

    Reverse switch r380

Be aware there are two different types of switch. One protrudes more than the other. They have different part numbers but sorry I can't help with them, but I believe this is why some work and some don't.

Disco 2 Rust Repair Quote Reasonable?

Welding is a naff job on vehicles. It can be dirty, difficult and uncomfortable to do - and it takes time! Keeping an older land rover is a case of ongoing maintenance, but unfortunately you have been hit with a lot of work in one go. You need to understand that there will be more things in the...

Seat risers with bulkhead still in place... is it worth it?

I have 40mm seat risers (home made from 40 Square box section). I would not have benefited without the bulkhead removed as the seats would not have moved back/reclined enough. I am just over 6"3 and I do have to stoop a bit. I would prefer the seat lower (well actually I would prefer the roof...

Let's talk about bushes ( no sniggering please)

Remember that the width of the radius arms changed I believe when it from 200tdi to 300tdi, so make sure you get the correct ones for your axle.

Disco 1 Radius arm bush replacement

Just a note, the radius arms come in two different widths, so if you are purchasing these yourself make sure you get the right ones. I think the change came between 200tdi (being the slightly thinner ones, to the 300tdi being slightly wider. (I swapped from a 200tdi axle case to 300tdi and I had...
