To buy or not to buy

What year is it? I have a 1993 90 that I have fitted front outriggers and rear crossmember, both of which had been replaced previously. I also replaced the rear outriggers and have rebuilt the dumb irons. If yours has the corrosion you are showing there then make sure you really check the rest...

    Help defender wiring

I recently replaced the rear crossmember on my defender. I tried to get the loom out but couldn't manage it. I eventually had to split the loom but after inspecting the rear section I found places where individual wires had broken previously - some had been repaired but one, the permanent live...

    Engine number identification

In which case that is a good idea. However I agree with Hicap Phil, photo will hopefully get a better and more accurate response. I hope you get the info you need. It may be worth asking on the LRUK forum too as there seem to be lots of knowledgeable series guys on there. Good luck with your...

Probably better putting this in the series section.

Options for getting rid of 110 windows?

I have some that fit inside (though not fitted yet) and I believe they fit without fixing through the sides. I think mine are powder coated steel (bought 2nd hand). https://bisonautodesign.co.uk/products/rear-inside-sliding-window-guard-protection-grilles-fits-land-rover-defender

Options for getting rid of 110 windows?

Have you considered the mesh guards? I think they are easy enough to fit and you could possibly get some second hand. Also consider that whilst you may not look out of the windows much, they let the light in which is useful when loading/unloading.

Potential fluid leak right front wheel - can someone tell me what is the potential issue? This is a 1993 LR defender 90 200TDI 53k miles

Check the swivel balls for pitting. Pitting damages the seals so if they are pitted they may damage any replacement seals and it would be worth considering replacing the swivel balls. I ended up doing both of mine but the cost has gone up dramatically since I did them. Be aware there are two...

Will 2011 puma front axle fit onto 1989??

I am not an expert on this, but I believe there were a couple of changes. Firstly as mentioned, the radius arms were changed to a wider version which were about 5mm wider - I think about the time of the switch from 200tdi to 300tdi. Mine is a 1993 90 and I needed to change radius arms when I...

1987 Defender 90 for sale. Galvanised! SOLD

From what I have seen people actively look for vehicles with a galvanised chassis and bulkhead. I think people suspect any old land rover (25+ years) will either have had extensive chassis repairs, will need extensive chassis repairs or will need a new chassis. Also any land rover of that age...

    Brake upgrade

I suppose if you can lock the brakes then it is your tyre that is the weak spot. I had aggressive tyres (insa turbo special track) and they were not the best when it came to stopping. I have Britpart vented fronts and standard Britpart rears and I can lock all wheels on my 90 if I slam on the...

Chassis repairs and rusty bits on Peggy the ex farmy pick-up

I replaced the rear section of my wiring loom but used a heavy duty 13 core trailer cable instead as I was going to have to join it anyway. Being 30 years old the loom was showing its age. I considered a rear loom but chose the trailer cable as it had its own protective sheath, was good size...

Chassis repairs and rusty bits on Peggy the ex farmy pick-up

Look at edge preparation on the thicker steel and the twin layer. You want to make sure you get both layers welded rather than just the top one.

    300tdi water pump

I thought I had read somewhere that the difference was due to different size alternator pulleys. I thought the later alternator had a smaller pulley so spins faster and more energy output - but this is based on me trying to remember what I read when I ordered mine about three years ago!

    Overheating 300TDI

Does the expansion tank have a flow? Could you try it on the hose from the thermostat housing?

    Parts suppliers are shocking

Yep, agree its not the best website. I have found the best way to use it is to put the part number into the search box. Also remember to put a G at the end of the part number for OEM options. Don't go in expecting to look round as you tell them what you want and they go and get what you want...

    Parts suppliers are shocking

Consider Buckley Brothers in Darwen if they are near enough for you - but ring them first to check stock. Nice guts that know land rovers.

    Parts suppliers are shocking

I use Buckley Brothers in Darwen because they are local and I can go and pick the parts up. Many are in stock but if not usually next day for collection - but I still ring before going to collect. It is a couple of brothers that have been supplying LR parts for years, so lots of experience and...

People on here are really helpful but they need information to be able to help. The mere detailed and accurate the information you give will lead to more detailed and accurate information being returned. If someone has told you the turbo is wrong, if you want help and clarification if that is...
