    Electronic ignition for 84 petrol

I've used Luminition on 4 and 8 cyl landys - well made and easy to install. Not cheap, but it did make them easier to start and performed flawlessly over years of use. Definitely more weather resistant that points too, and there's no wear as it's an optical system.

Fog light, older vehicle, does it get its power from dipped beam?

Yes and no! as usual. Red and yellow from the fog lamp to the fog lamp switch. Blue and purple from the switch to the fuse box (it should have it's own fuse). The power to that fuse does come from the lighting switch. It looks like it's spurred off at the back of the fuse box - fed by a blue...

Going "Full LED" - lessons learnt

Instead of the resistors, you can put a couple of diodes in the circuit at the indicator dash tell tale lamp - this is where both sides of the indicator circuit are joined - just one tell tale lamp for both sides. The diodes just let power flow in one direction and effectively isolate the...

    110 200 tdi disco & turbo

As mentioned before, you need to "clock" your turbo - this means rotating the cold part of the turbo until it's facing upwards. Have a look at the Glencoyne Engineering website, or a few of my older posts re tips for a conversion. Bits of a 2.5NA exhaust will fit quite neatly to the clocked...

    Exhaust issues

The part is as suggested - a 2.5 TD tail piece. I have had to cut around 4" off the end with both I have bought - otherwise they stick out beyond the side of the body. I wonder if your intermediate silencer position is making the end of the tail pipe point too much to the rear? The...

    Defender 90 200Tdi LT77 gearbox - No Reverse Gear ! Help !

I also had a problem with reverse recently. It's usually caused by the reverse light switch preventing enough movement of the selector thingy, that would be my first place to look. Sadly in my case it was a problem with one of the reverse yoke slippers getting out of place and the box had to...

    2.5N/A to 200tdi conversion

Might be a bit late as I see you have the intercooler pipes in, but I found that running the intercooler pipework high gave room to put a disco air filter and hose against the wing. Helpfully, the diameter of the 2.5na exhaust is the same as intercooler pipework, I used a bit with a 90degree...

XENON 150 Or Osram nightbreaker bulb

Those LED bulbs may not be road legal - many are not and can fail the MoT. I've used the Wipac crystal lenses with nightbreaker type bulbs for years - they are as good as many modern cars, providing the wiring is up to scratch - I've also fitted the boomslang harness. I feel your pain with the...

Bike racks, good bad & ugly

I have the spare wheel one mounted to a swing away carrier. If fact I've moved the wheel to the bonnet, so there's very little load on the carrier - this makes the door easy to open and close. I went for the paddocks version, I did have to adjust the distance between the prongs by making a...

    Bonnet spare mount

Hub down, the wheel rests on rubber blocks bolted to the bonnet, washers on either side of the mounting plate. If you have a look at the kit parts on the PA Blanchard website it will help. They were also the cheapest place to buy one a couple of years ago.

    Drop arm.

In my experience, the cheaper drop arm kits are harder to fit/don't fit as well as the genuine/better quality ones. Last time I did it, the bottom washer/cap was a couple of mil too thick - no way it was ever going to fit. I feel your pain with the mystery noise, I've had a clunk for over a...

200TDI to 300TDI Radiator and Oil Cooler

Pirtek or similar can help with the adapters - I took my rad and hose into them - there are at least two variations of 200tdi pipe adapters.

Door Seals For 1986 90 - Lift UP Handle

There's a one piece seal for the top and sides, and a separate seal that rivets onto the sill to seal the bottom of the door. Seal is a loose term here - you may still be able to see through the gaps in places! After fitting the longer bit for the top/sides, it's normal to have to adjust the...

    Time to galvanise?

Let's not get into that old chestnut LOL! All I will say is that in my experience after wading drums can take a while to dry out. You need to be prepared for this when approaching a junction a couple of miles down the road!

    Time to galvanise?

Re the axles - I'd say don't worry about them now, it's something you can always retro fit. Disc brakes are definitely an advantage if you off road a lot, but the original set up works very well if kept in good nick. If you commit to a new chassis it's an opportunity to rebuild the vehicle...

    Exhaust issues

Yep, that's not right. I recently replaced the TD exhaust on my 90 fitted with a disco 200tdi. That is too far back and low down. The bend in the exhaust goes above the axle - maybe you have it upside down? The Britpart jobbies can be a bit of a pain to fit, I find extra rubbers and metal...

    Rtc3458g or Tvc100010 uj

Island 4x4 sell the expedition versions of GKN UJs. They have metal and rubber seals which should last longer if you are off roading on a regular basis. No point in giving you the part number I use as my 1985 props have smaller UJs.
