Freelander 2 (LR2) how much is a full tank of diesel and how many miles on a full tank?

Is that the same as hanging about public toilets then?

    Steering Relay Oil

Yes, it would take a bit of machining and there is probably a need for a hydraulic steering damper but I'm pretty convinced it's not a bad way to go, nearly got my old mate here convinced, biggest thing with his two will be getting the relay assemblies out of the chassis, they've been in there a...

    Steering Relay Oil

Taper rollers in such an installation would be set with fixed spacers and a "preload" and would not require a "self adjust mechanism". Your idea with the spring and tapered rollers would not work because of the "ramp effect" of the bearing cup on the cone. I'm more inclined to try a conversion...

    Steering Relay Oil

Thing is, a set of sealed and lubricated bearings would not wear much at all the rotational movement is very small, the tuffnol self adjusts but is very limited and as soon as it gets a bit dry/corroded in there it stops doing it's self adjusting, it's then that the steering vagueness increases...

    Steering Relay Oil

Was talking to a mate yesterday about these relay shaft assemblies, he has a Series 1 and a 2A and is having similar problems with the relays both appear to have worn bushes and a certain amount of "rocking of the shaft", it appears that the "tuffnol" bushes are worn beyond hope. My solution as...

    Gearbox out

Lots of Landy Series ran about over our way with "transplant" 6 cylinder Holden, (GM), and Chrysler Valiant 6cyl engines running through original gearboxes, both those probably make more power than the Nissan, seems the diffs and axles were the "achilles heel" not the gearboxes. We don't see...

    Rare P38 valuation?

I reckon it's worth whatever you are prepared to pay for it, if the vehicle is what you desire and in nice original clean and straight condition, the mileage should not be an issue as worn out mechanical bits can be replaced, there are fewer and fewer good examples of these "older" Rangies left...

Bears a vague resemblance to a Land Rover, some military spec device no doubt.

    Disco 3 (LR3) Disco3 2006/7 died whilst driving

Good one Gary, some of the gravity of the situation is lost in the translation, but in essence that Disco V6 engine has had the "richard", as they say.

    P38A Nothing lasts forever.

Alas, all I know and understand of ship propulsion is an engine room, and these days all I want to know about it is that someone else is keeping watch on the engine room of whatever cruise liner I'm aboard at the time. The ship fuel issue with regard to atmospheric pollution is big, as has been...

Well, that coffee table sounds like a great idea. As you can see from my comment, I know little of the BMW stuff, but after owning 3 old Jags with XK engines that some mechanics seem not to be able to get plugs into without "cross threading" I've done a few plug thread inserts. And yes it is...

L322 Oh Dang it - This is a bit more serious - Head off time I think....

Thinking they had iron liners in a aluminum block, the same "clack, clack" ones that put an end to many a Rover V8. Oh, hang on this is that filthy bosch BMW thingy, but even they would be "nickasil" or something. Still cant imagine any or significant damage from tiny bits of swarf even with that.

@Saint.V8, use lots of grease on the tap, piston @TDC, go carefully to make sure the tap starts square to the seal surface, sticky screwdriver to poke about in there when finished pretty routine job, I've done job this job a couple of times on Jag XK engines . The only real risk from alloy...

    P38A Nothing lasts forever.

Seems to depend on where the ships are, I been on a few cruises and find that the ships exhaust stack is always cleaner when leaving ports, in shall we call them first world countries, than when cruising international waters or leaving third world ports. I have come to the conclusion that these...

    Fan pulley bearing gone ...

What is the cost of the assembled bearing and cover unit over there? I was quoted a couple of hundred dollars here if there were any available, as the hourly rate for my time is zero, thought that the "fix" was worth it.
