Thanks Kev. The ECU is standard- but, like i say, i believe it was altered to run without Lambdas (although i don't know much about that). The injection and ignition is also completely standard. Only change is the air-filter. Forgot to mention i also replaced the Throttle Pot. Think i'm best...

Yeah, if i drive it like i stole it then it's fine. But in normal driving it coughs and backfires and doesn't move much.

The original garage is a good 250miles away from me now (change of job etc etc) and i can't afford to have it looked at professionally (Totally broke!), with southern garage prices! I can't remember the reasoning behind lambdas, but i think it was something to do with getting the exhaust to fit...

Hmmm. But in that case it would have been running rough all the time? The problem only appeared after 5000miles. I'll call the garage and see if they can shed any light- i haven't bothered them for a while.

To clarify that's probably my biggest problem with this- i know next to nowt about the engine and install requirements as i didn't do the work myself. Instead i gave a garage ALL MY MONEY to do it. :hurt:

I've posted about this a couple of times so far, but i'm still desperate for help....apologies. My 3.9v8 (97 Disc V8 with ECU rewired so it runs without CAT or Lambdas- 105k miles) defender has a bit of a temperamental attitude. Essentially, she runs quite rough- low on power, backfiring etc...

Scrap that- Driving like crap again this morning. SO, my new question is- if i wire in a button to interrupt the power supply to the AFM (essentially a button that does that same job as me unplugging it), would there be any detrimental effects in the long run? Cheers!

Another update- She was driving really nicely again tonight (covered quite a few miles), even after switching her off (which normally knackers everything) until i hit a humpback bridge a little enthusiastically and the air filter fell off (it's a rubbish after-market thing that falls off...

Cheers for that! Only the disco seems to be based in Uganda, which might cause me problems getting into safari parks etc. I've inquired with them thought, so fingers crossed!

Update Ran it with the AFM plugged again today (started the engine with it unplugged, then plugged it in) and it made a massive difference! Much smoother, much quicker to rev and generally a nicer drive. I've inspected the wiring and it all seems to be in good condition- i can't find any green...

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone's come across Land Rover Hire in Uganda? I've done the trip a few times, usually in Rav4's, but taking more folks with us this time and don't want to repeat the 'challenges' the roads faced us with last time. Cheers, Steve

Hi Kev, No cats or Lambdas, but ECU rewired to accept that. Running problem was that it would run fine for about 10mins, then become extremely lumpy, misfiring and stalling. I would then unplug the AFM for a couple of seconds, then replug and it would run smoothly for the rest of the journey...
