Hi all, Weird one this: when i start my 3.9v8 110 there is a horrid kind of dry grindy noise for about a second, then it stops. Noise happens when the truck has started, not when it's trying to start. The nose is coming from the front of the gearbox/back of the engine, hence me wondering...

Hi all, Well, my drivetrain issues continue. I've got quite a lot of play in my drivetrain, which I can live with. However, what is more worrying is that when I back off the throttle above 50mph (when the drivetrain goes slack), there is a grumbly knocking noise coming from beneath my feet...

Cheers all- Got a bag of potentiometers from Maplins, I think the one i fitted was 300k ohms. Anyway, ran the engine up to temperature, fitted the potentiometer in the instrument binnacle and adjusted it so the gauge reads in the middle. Glued the potentiometer and checked it. working perfectly...

Hi all, Bit of a tricky one that i haven't het found an answer for- hopefully you geniuses can help. I'm running a 3.9v8 from a disco in my Defender, which has a standard 200tdi temp gauge. The Temp sender on the V8 isn't compatible with the 200tdi gauge, and it reads off the scale too...

Hi all- quick update. I've replace drive flanges and the slack has gone by 50%, which is great. Also found a little play in the props, so i've applied grease liberally, which seems to have helped too. I've inspected the Transfer box gear and can find only the tiniest amount of play (0.5mm), so...

Right, had a quick look at the drive flanges before I go to work (haven't had time this morning to do anything major), and the rears seem very worn- nearside is getting on for being smooth! So i figure that's a first port of call. I'll inspect the transfer box as soon as I get a spare hour too...
