    Defender 1999 td5 just stopped

Outside rear is correct. Not having a non-return valve is entirely normal, certainly RAVE does not show one.

    Defender 1999 td5 just stopped

Regarding the non-return valve in the fuel filter housing, some TD5s seem to come without one and have no problems. As long as you have the bleed air valve in the right place you should be OK. Sorry to hear about the FPR gasket; there do seem to be many types.

Discovery 2 broken down and not starting

Could be a number of reasons. A faulty crank position sensor signal will cause the engine to stop, but should light the MIL (engine check light). Start by getting the codes read by a TD5-compatible tool (not OBDII), and let us know the result. If nothing shows up then the most likely culprit is...

    Defender 1999 td5 just stopped

Col, if you have gone to all the trouble of cleaning out the system, why would you risk contaminating it again by trying to run it on the crap fuel you took out? I would ditch it and put in fresh fuel.

    Defender 1999 td5 just stopped

Col, I would guess that your high pressure lines are probably not the problem. In order I would do the following.....(noting that others are far better qualified to advise than me): Sort the dead battery and failed alternator. Get the codes checked for any non-fuel faults. Pull the tank and...

No problem Col. We understand you completely. :)

    Defender 1999 td5 just stopped

As above ref the diesel bug, although the TD5 has a plastic tank, so you should be able to salvage it. The engine could have stopped due to lack of fuel, but there may be other possible causes. I would get the codes read by a suitable (non OBDII) TD5-compatible diagnostic tool as you may have...

    Td5 injector slide hammer

Slide hammrs don't have to be violent. You can tap away quite gently until it comes loose. Glad you got them out. After the first couple of mine cam out quite easily using a J bar I was very optimistic, but the remainder would not move no matter what I tried - Allen keys, pry bar, bigger pry...

Freelander 2 limp mode intermittent fault

Welcome to the site. Given the complexity of your problem I suggest that you post it in the Freelander section where you should get some specialist advice and fewer BS responses.

    Td5 injector slide hammer

I think the problem is that if you have removed your injectors a few times and are confident in how to do it, then you can pry them out. However when I came to do it for the first time I found that only two could be pryed out, the others refused to move and I did not have the confidence to force...

Mud tyres in the snow question??

    On road, I completely agree.

Mud tyres in the snow question??

Mud tyres tend to be excellent in deep snow, but mediocre on packed snow. So good on fresh, deep, off road snow, but less impressive on snow covered roads where A/Ts or proper snow tyres are much better.

Series 2 Anyone fitted a roof tent

I have never noticed a performance or fuel penalty with my roof tent. There will definitely be one, but without setting out to clinically detect it, there is just no noticeable change.

Disco 2 Rear door not opening

The outside handle seems to be moving through its normal range. It was perfectly fine before I swapped the door cards. What has changed is that before you pulled the handle, met resistance and the next movement opened the door. Now there is no resistance. I will prize the plate off and do what...

Disco 2 Rear door not opening

Dammit, this is a self-inflicted cock up. I have just removed the tail gate handles and door card. Drilled out the rivets holding the door release mechanism in pace, wrapped it in bubble wrap and tucked it neatly inside the door. This is so that I could fit a 2mm checker plate card and attach a...

Detailed instructions for fitting Mazda RX8 seats needed

If anyone is thinking of doing this, my son has just taken the RX8 seats out of his D90 and put in some decent originals (wanted a third seat and to be able to access the battery/ECU in less than an hour). Not sure what they are worth, but available and in good nick.

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

Thanks, that is the sort of thing I'm looking for, but for a D2 rather than a D1. I have messaged them to see if a D2 version would be possible. Cheers.

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

Thanks for that. I like their stuff, but not sure my fabrication skills are up to the task of replicating one and I don't fancy welding aluminium to modify one. Never did hear back from Ian Dixon. That will be a no then.

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

What was good though was that pretty much every car that passed while we were setting up the recovery, stopped to ask if we were OK and if we needed any help. :) Nice people on the islands.
