    Gearbox selector rods

thanks, I was worried I'd screwed it up somehow. The manual's suggestion that the selectors should be fitted to the rod in the middle of the radial movement (37.16.34 - 12) is a bit rubbish, and doesn't really inform where they should go in the axial direction.

    Gearbox selector rods

I've just been putting the selector rods back into my gearbox. With the top cover and detents not yet installed, they were moving back and forth quite freely but now I've finished refining the cover and detents I can no longer move them. I can see that the gear stick will give me a whole lot...

Military series III, does it have a different water pump? Why?

yup all there including the bookmark, thanks :) Also useful to get the right alternator as i've just mullered my one getting it apart!

Oily transmission drum brake, transfer case drain mod.

Ok then thanks I have a seal kit already which includes the felt washer. Any tips for decontaminating the brake shoes?

Oily transmission drum brake, transfer case drain mod.

When taking out my gearbox/transfer box to rebuild the gearbox I saw that the transmission drum brake was swimming in oil, presumably coming from the transfer case. A friend of mine mentioned a common mod where a drain hole is drilled into the rear of the casing, I'm looking for more...

Military series III, does it have a different water pump? Why?

Hello, I did receive it, thank you very much. I've not had a chance to open it and have a proper look yet. I've been spending every free minute trying to get my gearbox back together.

Military series III, does it have a different water pump? Why?

The military reg was 90-KB-85 This is the fan. I'd not noticed an oil cooler, although I've not gone looking for one. and a photo of the truck itself, the day I picked it up (before I took it apart!).

Military series III, does it have a different water pump? Why?

I do not, didn't know there was a separate set of military manuals!

Military series III, does it have a different water pump? Why?

I've had a bad noise which I'd worked out is either the alternator or water pump. I thought it might be the viscous coupling on the fan but was surprised to see that there isn't one, just metal fan blades bolted directly to the water pump pulley. I've seen a 7-bolt military water pump listed...

    Gearbox fragments

Yea okay, that's what I was thinking. I'm renewing the bearings because they all feel a bit rough. In other news I figured out at least one of the noises is either the alternator or water pump which is nice. There's maybe a second noise that's still unexplained but I'll see once I've sorted...

    Gearbox fragments

Got it all apart today. I'm definitely in for a 3/4th gear syncro assembly. There was no sign of any detent springs at all!! and there's a missing tooth on the inner bit. My reverse gear has a couple of chipped teeth so will be replaced. The other gears on the main shaft are all looking a bit...

    Gearbox fragments

Don't think it's knocking, the clutch slave is loose so might be that moving about. Made some progress this evening I tried to get the idle shaft out to split off the transfer box but assume I need to remove the drum brake first? I'm running into lots of weirdo fastener sizes, I assume...

Definitely has oil in it. Guess I'll be pulling the engine out after the gearbox is done 😟

    Gearbox fragments

Took the clutch off, it looks okay as far as I can see, bit gungy in the bell housing. Also the starter spring looks intact. I managed to make a recording of the noise, this is exactly the sound I'd been hearing driving around, that seemed to be becoming more frequent (which I thought...

    Gearbox fragments

Made a start yesterday, managed to pull the gearbox out without disconnecting the exhaust or dropping the fuel tanks which was difficult! Had to take the rear prop off entirely, I think the plunging joint hasn't got the travel in it that it should have. Now sat in the bed waiting on me...

    Gearbox fragments

I'm part way though the process of removing my gearbox to replace what I thought was a noisy clutch release bearing. I've got the floor and seat box out and have just completed the step "drain the gearbox oil". The transfer box oil looked a bit old but fine, the gearbox oil had rather a lot of...

    Windscreen hinge pivot bolts

Definitely no threads left in mine, I guess I could try and helicoil it.

    Windscreen hinge pivot bolts

Oh, so there would be a thread inside the tube that is part of the bulkhead? I guess mine have been drilled out at some point then, there were nyloc nuts on the other end of these.

    Windscreen hinge pivot bolts

I did wonder that, but the part number (shown in the screenshot) came from the series III part catalogue.

    Windscreen hinge pivot bolts

I had a bear of a time un-seizing mine, to the point where the welded tube on the bulkhead on the driver side tore apart. I want to replace these bolts. I looked up the part number here, 346989 and ordered from Craddocks: The parts that arrived are much too short. Have I been sent the...
