Progress, yeah, I thought I would start the process in plenty of time. Posted my paper dossier off to ANTs in late 2019, heard nothing for 4 months, told this was normal, so hung on. Then early 2020 had it sent back with a refusal saying only to apply 6 months before my UK licence was due to...
Must admit I was quite tempted to go fishing this afternoon, nice mild SW breeze, alright if I can keep dry, but I have to wrestle the French driver licence website, which is being a pain in the derriere.
Ho ho ho..........:D:D:D
Finally finished faffing about with the front hubs etc on Buttercup, all new cortico seals, all new timken bearings, mostly new bolts. Thought I would flush the brake fluid while I was about it as last changed 4 years ago, used 1.8 lt. Now waiting for the rain to stop and roads to dry out...
Started stripping down the other side in prep for change of seals and bearings on the front hub, suprisingly easy, same as the other side no bolts seized, even the brake joints came apart lovely. 3/4 of the way to finishing it off, seals and bearings changed. Too cold to carry on much longer so...
Anyroad-up, the tool actually works so that's that done and back together.
The outer seal I drove in until it seated on the shoulder of the hub, to do this I used the same tool that I use for installing bearing cups. So if you don't know, here is a top tip, when you drive out the old bearing...
I think you've hit the nail fair and square on that one. If I'm successful I shall attempt to draw out the dimensions I have made my tool to.
Would it be a problem with copyright or patents for the zone to have a section for members to post dimensions of special tools?
Been faffing about the last couple of days trying to fit new seals and bearings to the front hubs on Buttercup. Only 3/4 way through one side at the moment cos I have lost confidence in what I am doing regarding fitting the new seals.
I was so chuffed that everything came apart, no seized bolts...
Thanks for that, the tool looks similar to something I turned up on my wood lathe this morning before I started having doubts of exactly what I was doing.
Looking at it though the dimensions seem a bit different.
Probably not too much of a problem for someone who knows, but I am getting seriously confused in how to fit replacement front hub oil seals. I have an LR workshop manual - the big grey book - and the method of fitting seals seems to conflict with other information I have.
Right then ; - from the...
Ah ha, ok, so that of course begs the question which slot ?? :D:D:D
I can see I'm going to have to have another look at it. Got the front hubs to strip on me RRC first though, and anyway from what peeps have said looks like it's a warm weather job anyway. It's just that as the thread was here I...
Ok, so my seal with 3 grooves will be alright, and I don't mind fitting a filler strip, do you think the fact there is the extra groove will make it easier to get the screen in?
I bought a Britpart screen rubber some time ago - like 3 years - and still haven't got round to fitting it, health problems mostly.
So a question for you, mine has 3 slots in the rubber, I was expecting 2, have I got the right one?
In my experience, unless your very lucky the Full Restoration is probably not up to the standards that you might expect, the worst thing is to have something that you keep saying to yourself, "well. that's not perfect but it will do"
It really does depend on what you want of course, but I did it...
After presenting Buttercup with a nice set of new boots, the road noise is so reduced from running on the old noisy A/T's that I could hear a nasty whine when driving over 60mph, quite bad at 70 odd. Thought it might be T' box, and probably about time I changed the atf anyway. Had a look at...
@congo181 glad your sorted.
I have Discoverer STT PRO on my 90 and am happy enough with them, very quiet on the road and good road manners as well, good off road with one exception, they are not very good on wet mud sideslopes. I have had a few "moments" on a couple of lanes near me. Might well...
I prefer to work on mine as well, when we were in the UK it was because I didn't trust most garages, now in France I have plenty of time so it's just turned into a bit of a hobby,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and of course it saves the pension.
