These days I would be tempted to have a look inside the chassis. Endoscope/boroscope cameras that plug into a smart phone are so cheap these days, be carefull though, the inside of a chassis rail is quite often the worse bit.
Something that has become habit with me now is to drop the drivers window just 1/2 inch and then check it goes back up again. Something is not quite right as it sometimes refuses to close, better to find out while the wind deflector hides an open window before I get home.
Fitted a new rear mud flap to replace the one that fell to bits. Nice little 15 minute job, and just for a change it didn't lead to a shopping list of new parts.
Finally fixed the leaking fuel cap on Buttercup, the rubber washer/sealing ring on the cap was letting diesel pass so kept getting fuel on the wing. After a lot of faffing about bought a sheet of 3mm nitrile rubber and cut a replacement. Seems to work so far.:):)...................then checking...
Did the tappets on my 200Tdi last week, coming back from a supermarket trip Thursday thought I could hear one rattling.
Just checked them out and found # 6 lock nut was loose with something like 30 thou gap :eek::eek::eek:
All done and dusted, road tested and everything seems fine again...
Spot on there, I'd just add that it is worth using quality parts or you will do it again in 6 months time, and get plenty Plus Gas around the circlip (cos you really don't want to bust it like I did)
Finally got round to adjusting the tappets on my 200Tdi 90, only 3 years after I was going to do it. Other things got in the way so it kept being pushed to the back of the queue. Quite suprised how little adjustment was needed, took much longer than expected cos I couldn't find the taper bungs...
Got the spanners out to Buttercup today, the 2.4 VM motor needs the head bolts re-torquing 40.000 Km after head gasket replacement according to the book.
I haven't done that many, but when I bought her just over 5 years ago it had recently had the HG done, and I thought it would be worth having...
So sorry to read of anyone that is suffering from it, the "C" is a bastid.
Well I've had it twice now, and as far as I know I'm OK - probably - so your chances are good. Keep your chin up, and Never, Never, Never Surrender.
Yeah I know, and I feel for you.
I have been retired for a while now, unfortunately the body is starting to go downhill, just hope I get a few more years out of it to do some of the things still on the bucket list.
Diesel is cheaper than petrol in France, but prices go up and down so much these last few weeks it's difficult to keep track.
Diesel at our local has gone down to €2.02 p lt, that from a high of €2.50 3 weeks ago. Needless to say haven't bought any at these prices yet, I can probably go another...
As far as CT's are concerned I go the extra mile ( quite a few kilometers actually ) to a chap who knows Land Rovers inside out, as an example when Buttercup was tested he had pre-warned me to remove the front prop so he could do the brake test on his rollers.
Well it worked because she came...
In my opinion the STT PRO is not a mud tyre, I bought a set more or less as soon as they were on the market, and they have done all that I wanted bearing in mind the vast majority of my driving is on the road -same for most landies.
What I wanted was a tyre that was good on road, which they are...
As title really, I want to change the gearbox fluid on Buttercup, 5 speed lt77 gearbox (1988).
I have searched this site and the wider internet and am having trouble getting what I think I should be using.
There is a long post on here somewhere that I found very informative, this suggested using...
