    Bristol area

Hi Martyn I'm currently landroverless at the moment - but very much still in the Bristol area. Although my daily car is a 4x4 (Nissan Xtrail) and copes with most of the off road driving i put it through at work, its not really built for serious laning!

Somerset. Help needed on green lane

Only just spotted this i'm afraid - on a little bit of a "landrover hiatus" at the moment but very local to me. For the record, whilst there are no byways in "Somerset", there are a fair few in "Bath and North East Somerset", which is where these are. I have driven most of them many times, and...

    How to stay alive laning

Also means YOU are on solid ground to assist and pull the lead vehicle back out if they need it. 2 vehicles stuck in deep water are no use to each other. One vehicle in water and another on solid ground means you at least have a fighting chance. My biggest tip would be not to drive into it...

    Westbury/Frome/Knook/Larkhill

We haven't been out for a while but there's a group of us that head down onto Salisbury plain once in a while. I'm "out of action" at the moment but @rob_bell or @neilly are probably the best people to talk to!

    Towing.

Towing a Sankey on a landrover is bliss... as they follow so neatly in the landrover's tracks. The downside to them is they're so short, that by the time you realise its turning on a reverse, its almost too late to correct.

    Towing.

A lot of that is to do with brakes. In theory, if you had electric or air brakes on the trailer there would be less of an issue. With overrun brakes, you still rely on the car to provide the initial braking force, with the trailer brakes being activated by the compression force of the trailer...

    Towing.

I'm trying to find any vehicle that you could drive on a B license that has a towing capacity of more than 3.5 tonnes..... Certainly not anything from the Landrover range. The Navara tops out at about 2.6 tonnes, and the hilux and ranger stop just short of 3.5 tonnes. The only thing i've...

    Towing.

If you haven't towed anything before, i'd see if you could borrow a trailer (ideally 750kg or less) from a friend, and go out with someone who has towing experience to get used to it... then book a lesson or two Because of the requirements for the test trailer, most people use a professional...

    Towing.

I don't disagree... but the way I read your post sort of suggested that there was only 360kg left, which would certainly be a tiny trailer. For people who own a defender for other reasons, but want to be able to tow the family camping trailer, or even a small box trailer (our one at work is...

    Towing.

Not quite It's EITHER any vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes towing a trailer up to 750kg OR any combination of vehicle and trailer with a combined MAM (gross train weight) of up to 3500kg So if you're in a defender, you can tow a 750kg trailer (taking you up to 3800kg) because the trailer is only...

    Towing.

If you passed your test after 1997, then unless you took a separate trailer test, you won't have BE on your license. It might be on your list of "provisional" entitlements, but you wont have it as a full entitlement. If you do have BE listed on your full entitlements, then you can tow pretty...

    Sorry chaps, standing down ...

Thanks for all the time and effort that you've put in Paul. I'm sure i'm not the only person whose eyes you've opened to Glass and the great work that it does.

    How to choose a car?

I'm intriegued Your location of "NY" suggests New York, USA. But the car you're looking at is in India Either way - i'm not sure why you're asking for advice about a Hyundai on a Landrover forum, especially in the offroading section without any mention of using it for offroading? If you're...

    Bristol area

Would be good to get something sorted at some point. Have been rather quiet the last few months. Mix of work, personal life, and the fact that i'm driving off road most days at work at the moment has meant i haven't bothered going out at weekends. I still need to have a chat with our...

Was a bunch of Disco 1 and 2s You're right about the number of Camel's in the area though - there's at least 2 in Saltford and a number in Keynsham, although i know at least one is a fake.

Anyone here out in Keynsham today? Came across a sizeable convoy of green ovals around the place a couple of times and swmbo spotted them when she was in town too. Passed them one last time in saltford on the way home.

    Stuck- SOS

If they can't help you themselves they should at least be able to tell you which farm the track belongs to - and they'll probably have contact details for them.

    Stuck- SOS

something like that Sadly its about 3 hours away from me so not a chance. If it was local (and if I had landowner permission or police instruction) i'd pop along with a rope, and then suggest coming out on a trip with a few experienced LZers to learn how to do it properly. Without the...
