What have you done to your Freelander today

Well all week in between rain showers/storms I’ve been replacing various filters and cleaning the EGR valve. Did the fuel filter yesterday (interesting), and now I’ve got a noise from that area when moving. So that’s me sorted tomorrow. Today I buffed my headlights: OS Before NS after My...

    Pollen filter from hell

Thanks Stance, hoping to do the oil when the 36mm socket arrives, hopefully later this week/weekend. Roughly where about is the hole or slot in the undertray? Cleaned the EGR today:

    Pollen filter from hell

That cut out sounds like a great idea. Is it more of a slot oriented front to back to accommodate the oil pressure going down as it drains?

    Pollen filter from hell

Managed to get it out, but not before some mini hacksaw blade action on the plastic moulding surrounding the hex bolts. Upside down with a mirror. It was pretty black. PCV also replaced but that required three and a half quid at Screwfix for some bolt extractors. Someone had rounded off the top...

    Pollen filter from hell

Cheers Stance, I think that’s the only option. Or sand the cup away maybe. Very tedious. Its replacement is similar but I can just get the socket in. It’s so tight I can turn the filter upside down and the socket stays put. A ridiculous design.

    Pollen filter from hell

Moderators, could you please move this thread over the Freelander section.

    Pollen filter from hell

Hi Discool, Thanks, but seen them both. Hence the ridiculous thread. As I said it should be so easy. Mine are definitely not cross head screws. Irrespective, I still can’t get my socket (Bahco, so it’s not as if it’s some Far Eastern rubbish) far enough in past the plastic moulding to engage...

    Pollen filter from hell

Hi All, Apologies in advance for the apparent remedial thread. It should be so easy but I can’t get my pollen filter out for replacement. My 6mm socket of my 1/4” ratchet won’t even go into the recess to engage with the bolt head. Am I missing something? Are they some obscure flavour of bolt...

    Whine, whine, whine

Anyways, the FL is fully recovered. New auxiliary tensioner and auxiliary and air on belts replaced. Quiet as a mouse now.:) Thanks to all who took the time to answer.

    Freelander 1 PCV Upgrade

Any recommendations for engine oil, before I go and get some. The last time I did my own servicing was in the late 80’s….!!

    Freelander 1 PCV Upgrade

Thanks Nodge, The gear arrived this morning so that’s time at the weekend spoken for(weather permitting!).

    Freelander 1 PCV Upgrade

Cheers Jayridium, I think there’s a consensus appearing here. Plus another thread I found elsewhere. I’ve ordered the white filter.

    Freelander 1 PCV Upgrade

Hi J_D, Thanks, since putting the post up I’ve seen a thread via Google not the search function. That thread said the same as you. Won’t bother with ‘upgrade’ after all. Cheers, Michael.

    Freelander 1 PCV Upgrade

Hi All, In another thread (Whine, whine, whine) I’m getting that sorted. In the meantime I’m going to do the service - usual things, oil, air, fuel filters and fluids, oil, diff, gearbox. My question is rather than replace the crankcase breather with another, do the ‘upgrade’ to a supposedly fit...

    Thanks again Nodge.

    Whine, whine, whine

Thanks Alteredtech, any particular recommendations or is it still Haynes?
  17. MaxTheDog1

    Whine, whine, whine

Thanks Nodge, Short answer is I don’t know. I don’t have any service history or service book just the ‘it’s had a service’ from the place I bought it. Anyway the usual service items are ordered and the plan is to replace IRD, gearbox and diff fluids quite soon, along with the PCV and check/...

    Whine, whine, whine

Thanks Alteredtech and Rank Amateur. I should’ve also added that it’s not there when in neutral and I revv the engine, so I’m assuming it’s a transmission issue. :(

    Low annual mileage

    Thanks Nodge. :)

    Low annual mileage

While I’m waiting for the stuff for the filters and oil to turn up, I know there’s a decent amount of ground clearance under FL’s but where is a suitable trolley Jack point to enable axle stands to be used. I’ve another thread going (Whine, whine, whine) and I’ve noticed an oil leak aroungtthe...
