Disco 2 Blowing exhaust manifold, again. Probably need new cylinder head; what am I looking at?

Who is your mate who refaced yours? I'm also in North Yorkshire.

Disco 2 Blowing exhaust manifold, again. Probably need new cylinder head; what am I looking at?

Then fingers crossed if I start with just getting this one refaced I can get away with refitting it and it'll be fine. Presumably I'd want to replace the manifold gasket against the head in that case - should I also be replacing the one between the manifold and the turbo while I'm at it?

Disco 2 Blowing exhaust manifold, again. Probably need new cylinder head; what am I looking at?

No, its a brand new hole in the head, separate to the one with stuff stuck at the bottom. Do you subscribe to the theory that an already warped manifold is less likely to warp again/further if I just get its face skimmed? I can't afford a brand new head at those prices, but I was wary about...

Disco 2 Blowing exhaust manifold, again. Probably need new cylinder head; what am I looking at?

Its been remapped, yeah. The problem is bolting the new manifold to the botched head, otherwise I'd assume you'd be right.

Disco 2 Blowing exhaust manifold, again. Probably need new cylinder head; what am I looking at?

2001 Discovery 2 TD5 I had problems with a warped exhaust manifold previously, got it replaced, and it came loose again - this time throwing a stud altogether. In trying to replace the stud, the garage discovered the remnants of an old stud in the bottom of the hole, along with part of a drill...

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

That's a decision for when I can afford to swap out all four tyres, hopefully for all terrains. Would 255/70 fit the same rim too? EDIT: or maybe not 70, as that's a % isn't it. Would want to keep the same rolling diameter.

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

Yeah, I'm resigned to the fact I'll have to spend a bit more and change at least one of the 16" tyres and swap all four out at once. Should I expect a noticeable difference in handling even then? That's something I hadn't really considered.

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

The narrower tyres are just what's coming on the 16" rims I'm getting. I'd love to be able to afford to swap all five for some all terrains right now, but I can't. I was hoping to be able to wait until I could afford it, but two need replacing already, as do two of the five 16". I may be able...

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

OK, so clearly I'll need at least one new tyre. I assume the advice would be the same regarding putting different styles on front & back, even at the same size? The guide was a comprehensive one to tyres, not wheels. More than capable of switching those over.

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

Great info, thanks. I don't use the car a huge amount, and I'm not in the business of throwing it around; I don't off road. The 5 16" rims aren't much more than the price of the two new tyres I already need, and three of them already have decent tyres on them; then I just need to replace the...

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

Can I ask why that is? EDIT: Plan would be to change the two rear tyres to the 16" now and switch the front later. My understanding is that as long as they're the same per axle its OK?

    Disco 2 Moving from 18" to 16"

I'm contemplating switching, but just want to know any other considerations to be aware of? I came across a pretty comprehensive guide on here recently, but can't seem to find it now. If I get a set of 16" alloys will they just bolt straight on in place of my current set? I'm currently on a...

Disco 2 Trolley Jack or just axle stands? Also where to jack?

You shouldn't need to, you should just be able to download that directly.

Disco 2 Trolley Jack or just axle stands? Also where to jack?

RAVE: I'll likely leave this there for a good while; but if anyone comes across this in the future and it's gone, feel free to PM and I can put it back.

Disco 2 Trolley Jack or just axle stands? Also where to jack?

Got mine out and it looks as though it has a maximum of almost 16" height, which putting it against the axles and jacking points would only give about 4" of lift of the wheels off the ground at best. But that's much better than the lift of the jacks currently in my price range, so I'll stick...

Disco 2 Trolley Jack or just axle stands? Also where to jack?

That's one of the reasons I was asking. Do you know what the lift height is on the standard disco bottle jack? I've been looking at this, which appears to have a 13" lift height, well within the range of these stands. But without experience I don't really know what sort of height is...

Well I've been reading and not doing, so I know some bits but don't have much confidence in putting them into practise haha.
