Small countersunk screws worked fine for me but I screwed them down hard so the heads were buried in the cloth.

If its an ally master I would not bother changing the seals as the bores wear. Works OK in cast iron as only the seals wear. You may be lucky but its annoying to strip it down and find a step in the bore.
