    Engine on Ebay

You are very unlikely to get any series engine that is ready to run unless you buy a recon as these engines are now 50 plus years old. Assume you have to strip and clean up and probably replace rings, shells and do a valve grind.

    Series 3 speedo drive

Take your time doing the preload, its makes a big difference to how the output shaft runs. If there's not enough the pre-load disappears when the box gets hot and expands and this lets the shaft wobble which causes the oil seal to pass oil into eh transmission brake.

    Quality of Wolf rims

Agreed, std M16 nuts, should be the same. Just double check that they have the 45 mm in stock not the 40. Someone asked about the spring wrap, its Denso tape or "petro" tape if you are near a Toolstation, use the 3" version, 2" is too narrow and 4" won't wrap easily. Its horrendously sticky and...

    Not a clue

That looks right but you do need the guide / cover for the yellow knob and the spring as this is all part of the mechanism.

LANDROVER SCAM .. 5 sunbeam street wolverhampton..ebay ..smart reconditioning

I think your question is spot on. Collecting data like this is really important. Our residents battle here about a drug dealing family was first and foremost a battle to show the Police and Council were doing nothing. It was at least as important to collect evidence against the police and...

    Mr Mustard goes Camping...

Something about living in a gated housing estate in Central London with £2m properties took away the "roughing it" element for me. If you really want to be "part of the great outdoors" try not living behind gates. I too follow Grizzly and Bear, they give a lot of sensible technical advice as...

    Series 3 Electric Conversion Kit

Wait until the battery prices drop, there are some new technologies in the pipeline. Also what ever vehicle you convert it will need a decent chassis and running gear for the extra weight so there's no point starting with a vehicle that has corrosion problems.

    Penman Trailer Build (What Colour?)

This is a touchy subject for me. The house next door was being renovated and they got some dodgy roofers in who cut the cast iron gutters off with an angle grinder. This is a 3 story house and my car was about 10 ft away from their house so about 30 ft for the sparks. Trashed the roof and...

Series 3 fixing the locking hub - ideas needed

I would either junk them or get a used set off e-bay. You could spend a lot of time trying to fix it and never be sure its OK.

Series 2 I think someone rear ended it

Better not be French butter. And unsalted, don't want any corrosion.

    Penman Trailer Build (What Colour?)

Put a sheet over that window before you do any grinding, that's my first thought;)

    New Defender

The type of people who are driving new Defenders round here would not wave at someone like me unless I was in their way. Since my Series is diesel I often am in their way.

    Heritage S3 insurance needed

My Series is with Lancaster but they have been creeping their renewals up. I have another classic and decided to use Compare the Market to test where things were. Got a deal for £100 less (150 vs 250). , There was some advice recently, apparently covid has meant a lot less driving and a lot...

Series 3 Is series III permenent 2wd or 4wd?

I think it was also a compromise between simplicity, reliability and cost. Series Land Rovers did everything that was asked o them for many years all round the world in a huge range of conditions and they were fixed where they worked. They were never intended to be competition vehicles but...

Considering a Defender or Series II or III. Autobox / Engine conversion options

Buy a Defender, there are Series around with autoboxes, they occasionally come up on e-bay and sit around for ages. The problem is the gear lever comes up in the middle of the centre seat and so much has to be modified.

Series 3 Is series III permenent 2wd or 4wd?

The original descriptions from the period (now 70 years ago) don't really talk about 2 or 4 wheel drive. What they say (correctly) is that it is a 2 wheel drive vehicle with a front axle that can be engaged. In high range the yellow knob engages the front axle, in low range it is engaged when...

Series 3 Best quality Swivels currently on market

Agreed, I've seen people clean and fill them then teflon paint and had it last quite well. In the end its not a bearing surface, its just the seal so while hard chrome is nice its not the only possible surface. On a new car that would probably be plastic.

Series 3 Crap kit of stainless fixings

I fear you are right. The heyday of imperial A/F in the UK was probably in the 60 and 70s when cars, bikes and aircraft were UNF/UNC. Many aircraft are still are UNF UNC as the USA never went metric.but if you look at the Tridents, Comets and VC10s they are all gone. I served my...

Series 3 Crap kit of stainless fixings

Here in the UK imperial spanners and sockets are at all the yard/boot sales and very cheap, also usually very high quality. since many aircraft are imperial you can get really high grade tools at sales near airports as people retire and sell of their tools.
