    Exhaust repair

Don't cut slots in it, its a spiral and will fall to bits. Loosen or tighten the spiral to get a good fit, slap goop on and do the clamps up.

    Greasable shackle bolts

No point greasing a rubber bush. I suspect they have hard bushes.

    Reversing light on '75 SWB

I have LED work light. Was on switch plus tel-tale. LED lights are good because if you do use it as a work light you don't flatten the battery. In lockdown I finally got around to fitting a revering light switch. You have to drill the gear lever bracket and tap the whole to fit a std brake...

    Series 2 1967 Series IIA...how to proceed

It does sound like its not right. A petrol should do 65 with overdrive no problem. Could be over or under geared. 235/85 16 or 7.50R-16. Engine may be a bit tiered or need a tune up. In the US I would not swap the engine out, your petrol is quite cheap so economy is not such an issue as it...

Modern sealed batteries and Series Electrics

Agreed, modern sealed batteries are fine. But avoid gel type, they cost more and in my experience fail early if not used regularly.

    Discovery 5 2.0 engine nightmare

Kick up hell with the finance company and get them to take it back. They simply sat on the decision until they could time you out. The dates are arbitrary so throw it back at them. The car is a dog, it needs to be someone else's problem. Don't worry about who has it next, it could sit in a...

    Dodgy Brakes

Its superseded by STC3945. (but check that number!!) Are your brakes wider than standard? If they are they will be very good once sorted.

    New Defender - anyone interested?

Nope, the new Defs are all tinted windows, low profiles and driven by women round here. On trend are in Teslas and those awful Maserati SUVs

    CAV injectors

I'd go for recon, compromise on price. Yes you could buy the kit, but it will probably sit in the shed for 10 years before you need it again.

1972 Series 3 Indicators always on!

If its had wiring mods its hard to know. But many circuits on old cars did bypass the ignition sometimes for good reasons. The sidelights and headlights are often on the same fuse and it s legal requirement for sidelights to be available without the key (for parking at night) so the headlights...

    Dodgy Brakes

I got mine from "partsinmotion" on ebay. £31 per axle set. Get the RTC/STC numbers:(Double check these!!!) 11" TLS Front RTC3417 11 SLS R STC2797 10 SLS R STC 2796 Go to the partsinmotion ebay store and put the number in the search box - for the store (not at the top). They will come up (I...

    Dodgy Brakes

I've had a very good experience with Borg and Beck brake shoes. I did a lot of research and spoke with a number of tech departments. B&B put me through and I was able to talk with their expert. They use a modern resin lining that's not loaded with metal, its soft and high friction. I...

    Dodgy Brakes

I refused to accept that series brakes were inherently poor. OK it took at least a year of working through bit by bit but now my LWB drum brakes are a match for any modern vehicle. I also drive a Merc and the pedal travel, force and stopping are near identical. The only difference is fade...

    Dodgy Brakes

The hubs are identical so far as the brakes are concerned and the drums are now sold as the same for both S2a and S3. Yes the later S3 have different wheel bearing sizes and larger studs, but this does not affect brakes. As above, most likely full of oil, badly set up and hard linings. Set up...

BFG KO2 at or MAXXIS MT-764 mt

NHS is a US marking - Not Highway Service and it means the tyre is for off road use only. But so far as I'm aware its not used in the UK so my bet is its only on US spec tyres and then only on those with a mud tread. The NHS marking is used on some agricultural tyres and ride on mower tyres in...

BFG KO2 at or MAXXIS MT-764 mt

Yes that's the 3 peaks mark, the BFG A/T KO2 I was looking at did not have them. Update perhaps? The NHS on the KMS is a bit of a show stopper if its on the UK spec tyres. Perhaps its a US thing?

BFG KO2 at or MAXXIS MT-764 mt

That's very interesting because I could not see the M&S triangle on the sidewall. This mattered to me because I was (at the time) considering a trip to a snow area and a friend had got pulled by the local Police and they specifically looked for the M&S symbol.
