Update on this - it seemed to sort itself out - I wonder if the "ballcock" for the fluid level was stuck - it had the brakes fiddled with for the MOT and the levels topped up - feasibly something was stuck - land rovers eh

Thanks - the breather pipe is missing on the front axle and I think it's blocked up, there was a little bit of pressure when I opened the filler plug and a bit of leaking. The rear axle seems OK and the breather pipe is intact, but I thought it best to do both at once.

Evening all, Hoping someone can point me in the right direction - the brake warning light has come on on the dash of my 1990 Defender 110 - I've checked the handbrake, that's working fine, and I've checked the brake fluid levels, they all seem fine. Any other typical issues that might cause this?

So my 200tdi is shagged, and I considered sorting myself, but in the end I've elected to have a pro sort it for me and build me a new one. Peace of mind of a proper job without mistakes and getting the wheels turning sooner drove me to that decision

Just to add, the hardest part was getting the heater box out of the engine bay, once it was out, it was quite straightforward to replace the heater matrix and give the whole thing a general service. For a days faff and 30 quid on the new matrix, it's worth a punt to see if the OG heater can...

So the "second" gear lever is closer to the engine than the main one for a disco? Mines the "normal" layout for a defender, I just don't know for certain if it's lt77 or lt85

Yep, my reverse is left and up, having had a quick look a think it's going to be a lt77, as the lt85 looks a lot different. is there an easy way to tell the difference between disco and discovery Bell housing and flywheel housing?

No worries - it looks as though the serial number will help me ID whether I have the 77 or 85. I'll do some homework on whether it's the dimensions are the same and just the gearing is different. just on my original Q, aren't the engine mounts different between the chassis then?

Hmm, well, I've googled and the lt95 was a 4 speed, and mine is a 5 speed, but I suppose it could be a lt85 - any idea how to tell the difference?
