    Greenlaning nr Guildford?

Yeah I think I would check compression. Obviously diesel needs good compression before anything happens. I take it the bores looked good when the Head was off Andy? Might be worth just chucking a whole engine in if the bores or rings are toast. Does it sound like it turns over much faster than...

X Defend Pedal Lock fitted (with Pics!)

As you can guess by my user name I know a bit about locks  An L&F rpt is a bit of a different beast to the rpt in that vid. It's a bit like comparing a Genuine land rover component to a Britpart one.

Welding question: Is this an MOT failure?

Yeah it needs cutting out and welding up. Ideally take the spring seat off to repair it properly. You might get away with plating it inside the spring bracket but you may find the corrosion extends behind it. If it's on the offside remember your wiring runs through the chassis leg. Also that...

    Welding advice

Don't go with gasless of you can help it. I've used gas for a long time now, I used a friends gasless welder recently and it's like night and day. Gasless gives poor welds on anything but perfect steel.

    Which RTV?

I've tried a lot of sealants in the past and my three favorites are Dirko or Locktite 5910 which is a little pricey but comes in a very handy self dispensing bottle both give more f an adhesive type seal. Blue Hylomar always seems to do well with paper gaskets.

    Timing chain too slack?

Thanks James. In my haste I went a bought a new camshaft but after stripping things down it seems someones been in there before and the cam looks good. I'll replace it anyway now I've got this far. I was getting a slight bit of tappet noise when hot for some reason.

    Rear Bumperettes?

I use these on mine. I kept clouting the rear corners and folding them in. These stopped it.

Snorkel on a 3.5v8 good or bad idea

I saw an interesting Mod on the V8 distributor recently. Sometimes you can get steam off of the exhaust manifolds condensing in the distributor cap. So this cap had two holes drilled in it. One side had a pipe connecting it to a vacuum on the intake manifold. The other pipe routed into the cab...

hunting, no throttle response, backfire :-(

The only thing you mentioned which seems to stick out as a bit odd to me is that you say the brakes won't hold anymore. Has a vacuum hose popped off somewhere? if it's got a big vacuum leak it will make it run bad. Try tracing the hose from the brake servo back to the engine and see if...

    exhaust air bag

I've got one. I use it every so often just to lift one wheel. You need a well sealed exhaust system. The only problem with them is they aren't very stable. Worse than a high lift jack. If you're on angled ground and start to lift the bag will roll. You can see where it's rolled sideways in that...

    Greenlaning nr Guildford?

I think I know this lane, it was flooded last time I looked at it too. I ended up turning round as there was only two of us out and it looked deep. Like you say they resurfaced and left out the bit that actually needed filling.

    Greenlaning nr Guildford?

Yeah I want to try that type of shot again, but over a really twisty bit. Did get to see a bit of spring dislocation in that vid though.
