    New engine woes, please help..

Hey Rusty! Off the top of my head I'm not sure but maybe a couple of things to check. Try putting a vacuum gauge on it, this may be able to help identify if there is an inlet leak or any valve issues. The cam is not standard (obviously) but have you adjusted ignition timing for the cam? I run a...

Is my starter motor knackered? On my 3.9 v8i petrol

Starter motors can be refurbished so not a big problem - take it off, leave with auto electrician, pick it up when done and refit. However, I have seen starter type issues and the first try has to be disconnect the battery, then remove the big wire from the starter motor, clean the terminals...

    3.9 ERR5924 Camshaft Timing

I'm Pretty sure you don't time your cam to TDC. You need to have the cam specification. According to the workshop manual: Inlet opens 32 deg. BTDC ; Closes 73 deg. ABDC Duration 285 deg. Valve peak 104 deg. ATDC Exhaust opens 70 deg. BBDC ; Closes 35 deg. ATDC Duration 285 deg. Valve peak 114...

    Classic Brake fluid reservoir plug

To close this one off, replacement plug arrived today - fast delivery for sure! Yes it fits! Before you all go rushing out to buy a new plug for your brake fluid reservoir remember the plug bit is just a housing, you need to order the crimp on terminals that lock inside the housing. No, I...

    Classic Brake fluid reservoir plug

Thanks, for sure that is the same cap/plug but on the RRC with ABS there are 3 wires in the plug. I like the idea of maybe using some hot glue to form some sort of plug. If I can't get the right part I guess an acceptable bodge/lash up to make it work is the only option unless anyone has a...

    Classic Brake fluid reservoir plug

You know what, I think that could be what I need. I know only 2 terminals on that plug but I should be able to get the right inserts to make it a 3 terminal plug. The burning question has to be, is there a part number I can search for? Cheers!

    Classic Brake fluid reservoir plug

Thanks for that Mark. The yellow one. If I can't get the right plug I will have to try and remove the terminals from the plug housing and see if I can replace them rather than the whole plug. Really it is no big deal but just one of those things that is both irritating and frustrating.

    Classic Brake fluid reservoir plug

Thanks for the thought but unfortunately NO. The cap is fine, I need the plug to connect the 3 wires to the terminals on the cap if that makes sense? If it comes to it I suppose I will need to find a breaker and cut the wiring plug off or maybe remove the harness complete. Hey ho! I guess this...

    Classic Brake fluid reservoir plug

This is one of those silly questions but does anybody know what type of plug is attached to the cap on the brake fluid reservoir - it's a 3 way plug/connector and do you think I can identify it!! It doesn't really look like a Junior Power Housing, can't see anything to match in TE connectors or...

    Engine weeping

Listen to the guys, they're not wrong. Heads off and gasket swap, bit of cleaning for inlet and throttle body etc, check a few hoses and cables no big deal really. If you have a reasonable tool kit and all the gaskets etc it is perfectly possible to do it in a weekend. I have done a head gasket...

    Classic Electric seat connector wanted

AFAIK you should be able to get the female side (receiver), colour isn't important as long as the pins line up. The alternative may be to cut off the TTS connector completely and replace with a more modern automotive connector but that is a bit of a faff and I'm sure you know the story of...

1998 D1 3.9 issues after replacement exhaust fitted

Aaaahhhhh, one of them tricky technical problems then! I won't tell if you don't. Glad you got it sorted. Good luck with the vibration/shudder, I guess that won't necessarily be as easy to sort. Chin up keep smiling and all that!

1998 D1 3.9 issues after replacement exhaust fitted

Check both prop shafts - UJ bearings are possible causes. Also check the transfer box output bearings. Did you find out what your idle problem was?

1998 D1 3.9 issues after replacement exhaust fitted

MMMMMMMM............ A bit odd for sure. New cats and sensors shouldn't affect cold start because the ecu ignores the O2 sensors until the engine is warm (70deg.C or thereabouts). The high revs suggests possibly a stepper problem. I think I would start by removing and cleaning the stepper and...

    V8 Starting Issue

A misfire at high revs could be a number of things. I think I might start with the ignition amplifier. Also check the battery and the alternator output. Vac leak is a possibility and unfortunately so is HGF, so maybe do a full (wet and dry) compression test - you'll need a strong battery for...
