Much advice needed! (WARNING, NEWBIE IDIOT!!!!)

Sounds like a "no" to me....

Much advice needed! (WARNING, NEWBIE IDIOT!!!!)

So, Ive found something on fb marketplace (where all the best things are) Its very clearly an 88 S3, but apparently its registered as a 109, so its obviously a ringer. Now, if its just a parts car, that doesnt matter, so, my question is, would it be within the realms of reasonable land rover...

Or both? My V8 disco is stupidly thirsty, especially at todays prices, its about 65p/mile in petrol, so its virtually useless, but I cant bring myself to sell it

Thanks both for the helpful info! 5 door it is! As for "what would you do if..." I'de ask, why not make random threads? That's what the internet is for, after all. Its not like I can just go and find a bunch of land rovers and look at them side by side, the best I can do is look at some pictures...

Well, Ive already got one broken land rover... (suspected clogged fuel filter on the 3.9 V8 D1, either caused by E10, or a VERY old filter) Im also not the type to spend £1000s to prove something to strangers on the internet (nothing against those who do, just not my thing)

Just because it looks like a good deal doesnt mean I can or will rush out and buy it in the hope that I can turn it into what I think I might want.... That said, I can add windows to the sides without issue. The loadspace is otherwise the same, correct?

Much advice needed! (WARNING, NEWBIE IDIOT!!!!)

Yep, I got that bit.... Is it just a case of swapping pannels to go from a 3 door van to a 5 door SW, or is there a diffence in the chassis, floor, bulkhead, paperwork, etc? Reason Im asking is because quite a tidy 109 has come up for a relatively good price (not seen it in person yet, so Im...

    Rust in peace

Why not try applying for a V5? As I understand it, if they cant get hold of the owner, and nobody objects in the given timeframe, they send you the V5, and then I guess its yours? (NOT LEGAL ADVICE!)

Hi, quick question, how easy or hard is it to swap between van (3 door) and SW (5 door) bodies on a 109? (physically and legally?) As I understand, its quite easy to swap between van and pickup bodies? Thanks!

I dont think Ide need more than 90 days. You dont need the licence to buy the car, but you cant drive in the UK with a licence from some countries, as its not valid.

How to get to SA? On a plane, Ide imagine... SA resident buying a car in the UK, I think that depends on if a SA driving licence is valid in the UK. A potentially less paperwork-heavy option would be Australia, but then Ide have to sell the car before flying home. Plus I want to see all those...

From what Ive read, you do not need an address in SA to buy a car there. You need your passport/DL etc to get your TRN, and then you register the car in your name using that.

Well, you need a "traffic register number" and so you need to send them a copy of your passport, drivers licence, or travel permit. Only then can you buy the car, and register it in your name, and insure it, and then you need to get a temporary import permit for every single country you go...

Yes you can buy a car is SA and drive it around, and out of the country. That is one thing I did find out. Its a bit of a faff, and it can take a while, but you don't need an address to buy a car there.

Ive already got one land rover, so that certainly puts me on track to be an idiot, just need a few more to truly earn the title. And yes, its temptiing to drive the one Ive got to all these wonderful places, but Im currently still researching how much thats going to cost.... and with petrol...

Radiator, coolant pipes, thermostat, battery, alternator, diffs, engine, lights, wipers..... How long would a ground up rebuild take? (assuming I had the car, all the tools and all the bits with me, but not loads of skills, but all the literature and of course this friendly forum)

Well, at least iron out the bumps in a part of the world that I can walk to the nearest bus stop and go to tesco or wherever (for my warm coke and cold sausage roll...) My question is, how many different ways can an old series actually break down? Particularly the diesel?

I have also thought of another big benefit of buying one from the UK as oppose to abroad... Ide much rather break down in say Menai Bridge than in Nairobi

Okay, can you (or anyone) explain exactly what is meant when someone says "you'll find it hard/difficult/challanging"? does that mean "no you cant do it" or does it mean "youll have to ask multiple times" or something else? Maybe "youll need a brown envelope with £25 in it"? I find it hard to...

Ive never really looked, I just guessed at 8, one at each end of the spring, but now I can see 8 more, one at each end of each shock. No idea how heavy prings are? Would they be over the (26kg?) luggage limit? Ive got no idea. Just saw someone install them, lifting it with one arm, so it cant be...
