I'd go nuclear on it. Including ordering lots of shims. Reason being parts supplies are drying up. A major manufacturer of series box parts went bust recently. Plus air freight....

If the sump isn't entirely flat then adjust with a Landrover service tool such that the flange between the holes touches the block first. That way the bolts will tighten the gasket throughout.

Okay. A multimeter is a great tool. Don't need a top brand, something £20 or so will do. It will tell you if you've got 12 (or 24) at a wire. So you can see where the electric stops. That, with the wiring diagram, allows you to find what's not working.
