Do I really need to take the gearbox out to do the clutch release bearing?

Good excuse to check the seat box fixings. And handbrake. And propshafts. And rear bearing seal on the engine. Maybe new main bearing shells, all good

Chassis replacement on Air Portable series 3

Tricky. I'd put a new chassis on it. But I've a decent workshop, and experience. Knowing the mechanicals are good would make me reluctant to change to an unknown vehicle. Price in the cost of a new loom and you'd have a vehicle for life.

Series 3 Mobile phone holder suggestions

Waze factors in ULEZ and such like stuff, Maps, and paper maps, don't. When I'm in the boring economical car this is important. The phone satnav won me over on one particular trip. I was going from Bovington tank proving grounds to south Wales one evening. Google maps suddenly decided to...

Series 3 Mobile phone holder suggestions

I'd not risk it. Also the rugged nature of series suspension does lead to a lot of vibration, a mechanically attached holder works better for me. I also find the on line nature of phone based satnav very very convenient. Live rerouting can be a godsend. Waze is very good.

Series 3 Mobile phone holder suggestions

Fair challenge. Anything that obscures the forward vision is unlawful. It's why things dangling from a rear view mirror can and should cause an MOT fail. And a series has much less glass to stick devices to than a modern car. Plus texting whilst driving is also unlawful, whereas using a...

Series 3 Mobile phone holder suggestions

Some of us use our series vehicles as more than playthings. Having a secure mount for a phone gives me safe access to the satnav applications on my phone, which are invaluable when on a long journey. The use of a holder/mount is common and accepted practice for portable touch screen devices in...

Oil and filter change on 101 with the original V8

I know that when converting a series to v8 a remote is necessary, as the filter goes the axle. My 101 is currently a parts filling system, so I can't get to it.

That is your problem, just there. Sainsbury's. Around here they're happy if you don't use a bucket and actually pay.

Series 3 Red top pattern fuel pump pressure

Photos of pump? Not familiar with red top pumps. Do you use a swirl pot or tank? I suspect you might have a EFI pump. Get the standard RRC pump and see what happens.

Fuel tank location for genuine series 3 military

I think some civvy spec 109" were used by the forces. Most military were underseat tanks though.

    starter motor questions

Can't go wrong with a couple of earth straps between the engine block and the chassis. It's a common problem that the lead fails.

    Modifying battery box.

Bear in mind this was done in a hurry as I had a ferry to catch. And I've discrete oil and charge coolers in front of the series radiator. I cut away the horn mounting to get this to "work".

    Modifying battery box.

Er, is blanking the oil ports on the filter wise? There was a good article on here about eight years ago suggesting not. It effectively blocks the filter, iirc.
