What did you get for christmas?

I don't have the Extreme version but consider where yous going to be keeping the thing, I got the 5ft one originally for me SIII and couldn't fit it anywhere inside. Now have it in the 110 and luckily with the base-plate removed (split pin) and the gripper thing on top then I can (just) fit it...

Offer - Paddy Hopkirk roof bars - not needed

Well I'm not exactly up to your high standards but it's bloody ironic that of all the times to post it I'm the other end of the country. To be honest I hadn't seen the thread before.

Offer - Paddy Hopkirk roof bars - not needed

Bugger - I'm a 20 minute walk away most of the time (Chelsea), but currently in West Wales for Christmas and then possibly Scotland for New Years. If it falls though (unlikely I'm guessing) then I can arrange for a mate who's still in Kensington area to pick them up. Not quite sure when I'll be...

    Hissssssssing brake servo

Had a similar issue on a Td5 90 we had a short while ago (and perhaps beginning to surface on the 110 :( ). In short - yes it will cause a problem as the servo is meant to be a vacuum (rather than a pressurised vessel). Unless you have ABS I would have said that on a tarmac surface you should...

    Brake Light Weirdness

So in conclusion your bulbs are not working? My suggestions would have been to supply 12V directly to the bulbs to check to see if they're working, then stick a multi-meter into the sockets to see whether that's working. If the bulbs are working but not being activated when you push the...

    Defender Overhaul/Refurbish

If you're South-East based it might be worth having a chat with Challenger 4x4. I was recommended them by someone on this forum and found them very helpful. They're near Farnborough, if they're not interested in doing it they might be able to point you in the direction of someone who is.

    Potential 90 csw owner questions

I've had a Td5 90 and 300Tdi 110, with respects to fuel economy the Td5 did 26 regardless of what you were doing, no matter what loads it was carrying or how fast you went (although it had a multitude of problems - being an earlier version of the Td5). The 300Tdi's has 14.5k put on it since...

    Defender 90 or 110 questions

Admittedly I did have to remove the 2nd row seats because the sofa was 1/2" too long to fit in because of the "foot" for the middle seat. If that could have collapsed up then the seats could have stayed. Ended up unbolting them and rearranging them between the chests and the roof. Probably -...

    Defender 90 or 110 questions

Depends if it's a CSW or not. The CSWs have a self-levelling unit to compensate, i.e. normal road-springs (although slightly stiffer than the 90 as there's more body back there from what I remember) and then the self-levelling unit assists the springs when the load gets huge. Still not sure...

    Defender 90 or 110 questions

Haven't had that issue with my 300, did drive home from London with a sofa-bed (pretty damn heavy with all the metal work in it), 2 tables, 2 chests, 5 chairs, all my climbing stuff (3x60m ropes + basically lumps of metal), all my shooting stuff and most of my sisters books from Uni. As I'm a...

    Defenders in accidents....

I got hit from behind by a Ford Focus over the summer (doing approximately 30-40mph more than me when it hit). The Focus was written off - this was the damage done to the 110. I got shunted into a BMW which needed a new rear-end and this is what it did to me. Although I have seen what...

    Defender 90 or 110 questions

I've had both a 90 and 110 and while I love the 90s there's no way I would change my 110 for one again. Basically if you are going to need to carry more than 2 people regularly and with other stuff in the back then go for the 110. I'm fairly sure that there's no difference in height between my...

what you getting landy for xmas

    pass the parcel

Out of curiosity how urgently does this need to happen and roughly what size is it? I'll be making quiet a few journeys in the next few months in these general directions. I'm leaving London on Sunday 19th to head down to West Wales and then we're meant to be heading to Scotland in the 110 for...

    Defender open diffs

Oh I don't deny that - but he was having a go at LR for not putting them in as standard. My argument was that the reason they're not in there is most of the time they're not needed.

    Defender open diffs

Go on then... I'll bite (partially) The only 2wd thing I know Land Rover makes is this. The Series I, II, III were 2wd with a selector for 4wd (as far as I know) and permanently in 4wd when in low range. The Defender is permanent 4x4 (hence why you can't usually test their brakes on a...

    Stuck behind a freelander.

Also, typical Freelander driver - how can a Freelander carry more logs than a Td5 110  Ok, picky but he didn't actually specify what version of a Td5 he had, imagine how many logs into the back of a 130... Also having driven for the first time a Freelander (was a courtesy car) I have...

    my heaters crap

Well I must be one of the lucky Landy owners, both my Series III and 110 CSW have superb heaters (all standard). Although I'm fairly sure fenby1968 was very impressed with his winter heating when he finished the 200Tdi transplant last winter.

Self Leveling unit for Def 110 Wanted

Hmm, I might be on the look-out for one soon as well. I'm not 100% sure whether mine's still operational. Was planning on checking it out this Sunday when we head out of town for a shooting competition (5 people [5 in another car] plus all the guns, ammo and bags in the back). Must remember...
