    Vital spares

    I was going to say a 300Tdi

    coolant leak

On a 300Tdi the gasket between the coolant pump and the engine block is a common failure (just replaced it on my 110) so possibly the same on a Td5?

    thinking of buying 110csw

Similar to what happened with me, spent a couple of months looking, drove from London -> Cambridge -> Coventry to view a couple in one day. Ended up going for the second one. Full history, one owner, 70k on the clock when I had it, great chassis, body and interior (two small tears on the seats)...

    thinking of buying 110csw

Never shot anything but the Welsh Game Fair (always been busy at the wrong time). Have shot the Classic for the last 4 years though (netted £450 last year which I was pretty chuffed at, lost the 1,000 shells though because I couldn't stick around to the prize giving). Might give the game fairs...

    thinking of buying 110csw

Well will hopefully last the rest of the academic year... It's for a club so not as bad as you might think. Although the year I shot the World I went through about 2/3 of that on my own...

    thinking of buying 110csw

Had me a 110 CSW since May last year and been bloody impressed with it so far. Admittedly I did spend a bit more than I was expecting to but got one which required nothing to be done to it (I have since done some stuff cos I've given it a fairly hard time so far). I don't caravan but camping...

Ipswich to Bristol (or somewhere closer)

If someone can get them down to London then I do a run past Bristol on average once a month I would say - not sure at the moment when the next one will be though.

    Winch opinions please.

    Good point

    Range Rover Evoque 2011

Dat be true. Annoyingly I have to admit (as a car) it's growing on me, just like the D3 did. But having said that there's no way I'd contemplate buying one - Defender / Series are the only true Land Rovers.

    Winch opinions please.

I'll second the Winch Solutions stuff - had one for the last 4 or five years with occasional use (ranging from pulling trees around to self-recovery on the farm). The one I have is quite an old model but rated at 10,000lbs and never had trouble with pulling my fully-laden Series III. Didn't...

    Budget

I'd have said 110 but slacken it to Defender and I'll give it to you. Not enough boot space in 90 (for people plus equipment)...

    Morocco May/June 2011

I and a couple of others were thinking about a trip to Morocco over the summer - although it would have to be later since we won't be free until after the end of June. I have a 300Tdi 110 CSW as well and might be able to get hold of one or two other 110s for free (although it's a remote...

Strata Florida in the snow and ice

Looks a bit worse than when we did it last year. Although we did it the other way around judging by the 90 in the ditch (we had the benefit of being able to floor it if we started slipping into it)...

    What a Cock!

There are the odd ones around London - ironically it's not the new ones (they have no clue) or the serious ones (they ignore everyone else and try and maintain 30mph) but the ones in-between. Although having said that during the day the traffic ain't moving fast enough and during the night...

    This ****ed me off

I agree - have seen quite a few rants at 4x4s on UKC over the past few years. Although it's quite funny - whenever I've been in climbing areas in the Landy all the other climbers have loved it. Mind you it suits them since I've taken all of ICMC's (Imperial College Mountaineering Club) stuff in...

    Securing the load area

Apparently 88" sides will replace the rear windows in the CSW. Interestingly I have a 88" which I want rear windows in (it's a death trap at oblique junctions) and a 110 CSW I want to hide the boot for... I was thinking about how I wanted two complete Land Rovers. Never considered swapping the...

    Defender 1998 300Tdi coolant.

I've been having coolant issues as well (now sorted) - almost identical to you. My suggestion would be before you take it out check it each time (and keep some water with you). If it's below the level then fill it up to the level and as soon as the temp gauge hints at moving check the level...

    Tyre pressures.

Well considering the maximum pressure on my BFGs is <60psi I wouldn't particularly like to run it over 50. I think the major problem with running which high-pressures in the tyre are if you hit something at speed then you're likely to pop the tyre of the rim. I tend to go visually on the tyres...

    Tyre pressures.

My LR manual has fairly high tyre pressures in it (although I do run it at those pressures) but it does have two - one for heavy loads and one for not. The heavy loads was about 45psi, from what I remember, on the rear.

    Securing the load area

Dog-guard: Probably depends on the dog-guard but rather than welding perhaps pop-riveting might be better, just a drill required to get things out. Security film: No experience but I'd have said the grill will be more smash-proof although won't offer the "visibility security", i.e. hiding...
