Ok got that Wammer's, thanks. So why with a MAF sensor failure does the engine lose power? Is it going into "limp home mode" for safety?

P38A DSE autobox - ideas please. It was going too well.... SOLVED

I'm happy that it runs with the MAF sensor unplugged and EGR blocked. My biggest concern is getting a replacement MAF sensor :D Anyway serious question - how exactly does a MAF sensor break? Is it circuits or some auto magic inside it?

Block the EGR using a 1p coin, that makes a difference as well. I'm happy with it for a 2.5 ton car:D

The MAF plugged in I get no power, unplugged I get a very fast (for an oil burner) car. Any recommendations for a replacement? Prices go from cheap crap at about £20 - £400! Bosch, Lucas etc...

I will be lining one up soon Keith, plus tc and transfer box for when the inevitable happens, and on a P38 it's when not if as we all know ;)

P38A DSE autobox - ideas please. It was going too well.... SOLVED

MAF sensor failure (the one in the pipe from the air filter) :D cheaper than a gearbox & tc. Unplugged and it's going like a rocket again. I can never remember which is MAP & which is MAF. With regards to the injector #1, I took it out, cleaned up the threads in the head properly and re-torqued...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I know the feeling. When mine failed I had a burned out fusebox, leaking coolant return pipe due to PO(s!) using incorrect coolant (front one) and the starter simultaneously being intermittant! Talk about Sherlock Holmes and deducing things! :D

How do I know if the gearbox is faulty or the tc? What symptoms are for which bit?:D

No not yet I'll do that tomorrow. Funnily enough I did buy some MAP cleaner spray and clean it last week. But that was after this started.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I had this happen not long ago to me. I cleaned out all the carbon inside and it worked flawlessly for just over a month. Then it went naughty on me again. Got the sm refurbished ok for a week or so, then naughty again. Anyway I bought a new one and it didn't start up - same symptoms. No voltage...

Mostly clunks - occaisionally bangs. Sounds the same as the old 110's going from hi to low. But I think my gearbox is shagged now....

Hi all, Just asking for sage advice here (from the 3 wise men, and any others as well ). I have changed ATF oil after 6 months - it was almost black Changed the in tank fuel pump as I found it had failed Changed the fuel filter as well So I don't think it's a fuel starvation issue - but...

    P38A diesel not starting

If you fit an NRV before the fuel filter you won't know if the lift pump has failed:cool: I didn't until I checked mine the other day. Swapped it out today:D:D

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Drove round Oulton Park on the grass up and down the hills giving low ratio a work out whilst watching the car track day people red flag their sessions every so often. I like to use the low range once a month or so. The first few gear changes are always jolt jolt jolt at first and then they...
