    R380 / LT230 gearing advice

I have a 1.2:1 transfer box in my 300tdi 110 with military (lower first gear) LT77 gearbox and 750x16 tyres. the tyres are quite tall for 750's.) On occasion, whilst towing a horse box, it feels a bit over gerared on hill starts, but is otherwise ok. I fitted the 1.2:1 box as it previously had a...

    H6CPO strange experience l322

What sort of check did you do? Does the DVLA tax / MOT check tie in with it being off the road since 2018? Have you checked the VIN?

    Steering Heavy

If the PAS / Aux belt was slipping, I would expect it to screech, particularly on full lock. Ball joints can dry out and go stiff, yet still feel OK when you check for wear. Check the steering damper for free movement. Try WD40 on the steering UJs, if they have dried out grease may not solve the...

Engine mount template or sizes? 300tdi

It depends on which gearbox you are using, if it is the long bell-housing R380 then copy a Discovery 300tdi, if it is a military stumpy bell-housing or LT77, buy a set from Steve Parker Land Rovers, they use two existing bolts to align them and save a lot of faffing about.

Alternator identification and dual battery setup

Most batteries have a vent hole near the top. All you need to do is attach a pipe like washer jet pipe to the hole and vent it outside the vehicle.

Drum to disc upgrade worth it?

The brakes are designed to prevent the rears locking up. Everything since 1980 should have a pressure reducing valve in the rear brake line, it is dangerous if the back end locks up.

    300tdi cruising speed ?

If it has the 1.6:1 transfer box, it will sound like it is about to explode at anything above 55 mph. I have a 1.2:1 transfer box in my 300tdi, it will cruise at 75-80 on the flat, but it is happiest at 60 mph, just a little faster than the HGV's. I think aerodynamics are the limiting factor...

    750-16 Insa Turbo Sahara Tyres

Can any one tell me the width and height of 750-16 Insa Turbo Sahara Tyres? I have knackered one tyre on my Land Rover and need a replacement, I can't get hold of the same tyre as is currently fitted, (Fedima Extreme 750-16) and the Insa Turbo Sahara look identical. Unfortunately not all 750-16...

High lift jack dangers, and how to use properly.

High-lift jacks are unstable in every direction, they will allow a vehicle to slip from side to side and forwards and backwards. When they do this, the top part of the jack can be pulled into the bodywork, lights, radiator etc. They have their uses for off road recovery, but are still bl00dy...

Converting 1993 90 Tdi to Automatic

The only decent Land Rover autos that I have driven had either a V8 or TD5 bolted to the front of it. The 300tdi Discovery was so numb that if you wanted to pull out behind a car at a junction, you had to floor the throttle as if you were trying to ram it, the Discovery would crawl out behind...

Converting 1993 90 Tdi to Automatic

I used to drive an early 300tdi Discovery auto, it was one of the slowest, numbest things that I have driven. I note that you say that you need an auto, so you possibly have no choice, but prepare yourself for dissapointment.

    Extra battery.

The simplest method is to fit a split charge relay. That way ancliaries such as a winch will not flatten your starter battery. If you google split charge relay there should be plenty of info.

    Slam panel adjustment

Assuming that your bulkhead hasn't moved. slacken all the fittings for the wings and front panel and see if you can realign everything. The bolt holes are slotted to allow for "production tolerances".
