Sorted it.. It turned out that the door undoing rod (with the screw adjuster on the bottom) coming down from the outside handle needed undoing a bit. When i put the new handle in i had to stretch the rod to fit it back. I started to take it all apart again, but the door opened when i released...

After having a nosey it looks like its a spring that breaks n causes problems. You can buy the springs on ebay, but the problem i have is getting the door open so that i can get to the lock..

Can anyone help me please. I recently changed my drivers door outside handle because the metal handle had broken. All went ok and after i finished it worked a treat, opening the door easier than before, but then i went to get in one morning and it wont open.. I have searched on here but cannot...

Take the door card off n see if all the gubins are in place..

It doesnt need one.. You should be more worried about excessive rust within 30 cm of a mount..

Might be worth getting someone else to do it then, just in case you have probs with the water pump cover like i did.

Old one is not scrap, I might try n recondition it. Good to know I can do it by eye though, I have only ever done one clutch before n that was a mk 11 cortina and I didnt know anything about aligning tools n it was a bitch to do.. Cheers Pikey, will get a new slave n push rod. Did I read once...

Finally getting onto this job soon.. Just ordered up a quality clutch kit, hd release fork, crankshaft oil seal and a timing belt kit including both pulleys. I need to get me a clutch aligning tool, can anyone tell me if this will do the job, or do I need a better one..? CLUTCH MATE UNI CLUTCH...
