JLR being chased for diesel emission claims

I wasn’t going to say anything but.... The terminology used for UK motor makers was a ‘defeat device’. This was any type of software or hardware that recognised, and was only active during an emission cycle. A large motor manafacturer beginning with F... got caught, I think in the eighties, for...

Registering Land rover for agricultural use

Well, I believe it is pretty simple to do. I had an agricultural registered Defender. And wanted to use it on the road. Got the mot and went to the post office and told my local helpful friendly post office man what I wanted. He ticked some boxes on his terminal, I paid him the money. He took my...

    127 FFR more like FFFA

Ref the tow bar set up. Mine doesn’t have the big thick plate, and of course it wouldn’t have had the slider in service. So the big thick plate is probably non military, just been put on to support the slider.

As flat said, No don’t powder coat it. Water gets in under that. Also as flat said, a good zinc based undercoat. I am old, so would use Red Oxide primer and then something with a gloss finish on top. The gloss is more waterproof than a matt. In my view hammerite is only slightly better than...

Wow. That’s a brave amount of cleaning to a rusty tank. Make sure it hasn’t got any holes. Now you have done that much cleaning it might be worth using some better paint. I don’t have any better suggestions of paint to use, but someone on here might?

Series 2 Spare wheel on bonnet ?

I would use a standard skinny series wheel and tyre as a spare. Weighs less too, so easier to get on and off.

    P38A MOT

I have been using the same local independent garage for nearly 20 years, probably average 3 mots a year. I usually get 10% discount off the full price. I have no complaint supporting a local place and paying full price. I haven’t had a fail yet. Since the mots changed I haven’t had any advisors...

    Two post lift.

If you think the wheel free bars might be in the way you can slide them fully out and drive the car on between them. The wheel free bars come in handy for holding drip trays. They also come in handy to lift heavy sh1t out of, or into, the back of your pickup or trailer.

    Windscreen

Don’t use washing up liquid or soap. They have salt in to soften the water to make better suds. Unless of course you are about to sell it. In a couple of years time the surround will seriously corrode.

    Would you retrofit alpine windows?

If you fit them as good as the factory do, then they will corrode round the edges. As I have never sat in the back, I don’t see any benefit having them.
