    Towing Classic or newish?

Only a couple or so tows a year, I wouldn't bother buying anything else. Certainly not something so much older that whilst having negligble immediate costs of tax & insurance is going to quite possibly want lots more maintenance such as the tinworm. I know a tidy series would look the part for...

Not a P38, but a disco, oil drip onto front diff was found to be coming from oil filter done up not quite tight enough.

What's best for towing Petrol / Diesel

Nah, OP states "current models", I certainly read that as meaning available new and shiny on showroom floor. There is another similar thread around on series or early RR. Too many similar threads some days

Disco 2 Just changed my front wheel bearings WOW!

The MOT is first and foremost a safety test. Ever notice how other than emissions, practically every item on the check list is safety related? An advisoory basically means "noticeable, but not bad enough to warrant a fail at this time" In simple English it means "sort this sooner, not later". If...

Discovery 1 FS: 1990 Land Rover Disco 3 door TDI

No MOT automatically puts it in the scrap price band, regardless for many people. Think a third of what you are asking at best. £500 bought me a '96 with 115k on the clock, 8months MOT, and a lot of the usual rot already cut out and well repaired. RRC wheels on it are a bit of a turn off too...

Disco 1 Trying to track down a strange issue, help!

I'm thinking gearbox, not props. It is reading as a gear-dependent noise, not road-speed or engine speed dependent one. However... in the interests of belt and braces, check what RPMs give you the noise in 5th, then drive constantly in other gears at that engine speed, after all we do tend to...

What's best for towing Petrol / Diesel

    A) I said "tend to", the reason for tend to is that almost all oil-burners these days are forced induction B) the OP is about current model range rovers, all of which I used in my comparisons, both petrol and diesel are forced induction. 3.0TDV6, 4.4TDV8, and 5.0 Supercharged petrol. The torques...

What's best for towing Petrol / Diesel

Its a non-synchro gearbox. No technical reason you can't do it at any speed, providing you get all the gears, engine speed and road speed matched up.

    Mot Friday.....

Everything :) An awful lot of the MOT checks can be done with an assistant and a torch. Add a jack if you want to do almost everything except beam alignment and emissions. Personally, lights, tyres, etc are a far more regular check for me. This handy guide is basically my weekly checklist...

What's best for towing Petrol / Diesel

for the newer ones, which the OP asked about, the smallest diesel is still only around 7sec to 60 from a standstill. Not what I would call sluggish by any means. Sure its not in Ferrari territory, but will wipe the floor with most of the stuff out there on the roads. The new V diesels are...

What's it like to live with a TD5 Defender 90?

90s seem to be regarded as too cramped for extended over-landing, requiring external accommodation in the form of tent/hotel/sleeping under a tree.

    Parts from a full disco

Transfer box will perhaps have wrong ratios in it too Axles should be the same, it would be the springs not rated for the weight. I would have thought, simply because axles are unsprung weight.
  15. S

Probably a very silly and easy question...

No idea as it doesnt sat what size they are on the page, even then I cannot remember what size the disco ones are, grab a ruler and measure

    New transfer box needed

@sierrafery Grease monkeys don't do grease anymore. It's all replace. Few will do an engine rebuild, even fewer a gearbox rebuild. Doesn't help that people see a bill that says "Bearing £20, Labour £350" They think they are getting a better deal when they see "Gearbox £200, Labour £170"
  17. S

    Early D1 specifications?

I don't think any 200s had ABS, not even as an option. The reason for the airbox change on 300s was to give space for the ABS pump.

Another for no pics. if your website is on your home network, you appear to have rebooted your router. I suggest a service such as DynDNS so that IP changes do not really matter.

    Disco 2 Tires

I find the error on most modern speedos to be negligible, dependent simply on tyre wear. Even my 2 decade old disco manages better than 10% accuracy, somewhere around 5-6|%. Ye olde mechanical speedos tended to be set quite over, but of all the newer cars I have rented or driven in the last few...
