    Swivel pin grease top-up

EP90 can go in there, it will dilute any of the grease in there. The filler plug is a little above the level plug. http://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/defender300tdi/maintenance/check/top_up_swivel_pin_housing_oil/ I know it says defender, but front axles are the same.

    Road tyres....read on

Size is relatively easy, anything that keeps the same rolling circumference. eg 205/80r16 and 235/70r16 are identical circumference, one is just 30mm wider. A narrower tyre will give marginally better fuel economy than an otherwise identical wider tyre. Harder compound tyres generally last...

    Which one

One is a Range Rover. One is a shortened Discovery in a funny body shell.

Disco 1 easy one for someone here!

You won't like this, but that is likely you, not the clutch. It is fairly easy to perform a smooth upchange without using the clutch at all, down changes are more difficult as they require a throttle blip to bring the revs up higher than they were prior to commencing the shift. Simply a matter...

300tdi auto gearbox questions- what is the cable for and wiring loom

You are right, it is not the same. To use kickdown involves opening the throttle very wide and using a foot, to use the lever involves using an arm and maintaining the ability to not open the throttle to near maximum. To me, more often than not using the kickdown and pouring lots of extra fuel...

300tdi auto gearbox questions- what is the cable for and wiring loom

No need for kickdown at all. There is a little lever that can be pulled to produce to provide exactly the same effect.

Hi! First time owner! Discovery 2

Bolton? 5 Alloys? This must be one of those joke threads :) Welcome to the madhouse.

    in the dark

My 300tdi has no speedo cable, so I doubt a TD5 has one. This is good because they can be a real knuckle skinner to dis and reconnect in some vehicles.

Buying my first car... a Land Rover

I think you may misunderstand the idea of insurance. The major weighting in insurance has little to do with what damage your vehicle can survive, but the likelihood of it being involved in a collision (ie driver experience and safety features), followed by the damage that can be done to third...

    P38A Snow driving

I have to say, for snow on a packed surface, I disagree completely. When I was up in Alaska, all the "highway" drivers had thinner tyres on to cut through the snow, it was only those heading well off the beaten track, where snow was too deep to drive through, and had to be driven over that went...

M62 Murders! Do I Need to Replace My Head?

That then is the right bank. Engines are usually described in the direction they travel. Right side of engine on right side of vehicle.

Buying my first car... a Land Rover

And changing the roof counts as modifying it. New driver, modified vehicle, insurers say kerr-ching! Normally for new drivers I would say get what your mates think is stupid and wouldn't be seen dead in. A Matiz for example. 600cc engine, room for doing some shopping/fishing/trips to university...

Coil spring back to airbag suspension on discovery 2

What one has undone, one can usually re-do. I suspect it will not be particularly cheap, but can see no physical reason it could not be done.

Passenger side side and tail lights not working

Are they independently fused left & right? The stop is a completely different circuit, with likely a common ground for all lighting at the rear.

    Land rover HD tubeless rims

Tubes should only be run with tubeless rims and tyres. Running a tube in a tubeless tyre is asking for trouble as the inner of the tyre can wear through a tube quite easily. Bear in mind that have an oops, and the insurance co find out you are running incorrectly and you can be in a whole heap...

    44" 480watt Led Light bar

Yup, that looks about 480w equivalent, or in usual terms the same as putting 8-9 regular halogens on the roof.

TDV8 - stalled, 2xnew turbo fitted, engine siezed immediately in garage, my bad luck apparantly

If I stopped reading right there I would be thinking timing failed, not turbos. However, given the way modern electronics govern so much in engines these days I would not be too surprised if there was a fail-safe system in the ECU that shut down the engine and refused to let it restart in the...

    44" 480watt Led Light bar

LED lights are often sold with wattage stated as being the equivalent output of incandescent bulbs, not the actual current draw. Being as LEDs are about 5 times as efficient as normal bulbs, if your unit did actually consume 480w, that would be a similar light output to running 50 headlights!

Disco 1 Strange one for the experts lol

Brake fluid should be replaced often. As for the leak, yeah, one cc as a drip can spread an awful long way under the vehicle with a 60mph breeze to help it along. Swivels I prefer the oneshot grease, and any leak there would likely leave obvious marks on rims/tyres.
