    300 Tdi Rebuild

That could be the case, the turbo charger needs plenty of oil because of the operating conditions, the oil is not only lubricating but cooling the bearing and spindle, which gets pretty hot. It's a worry that you have little oil in the return, but that feed pipe needs sorting. Pushing oil up the...

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Did you try running with this set up? if so how does the oil seem to flow through it can you see through the tube wall with a light behind it.

Any reason not to use engine oil from unsealed container?

Mineral oils store fairly well, but synthetic oils absorb moisture which can be an issue. It's a story of value, if you had an older low value vehicle then you would not spend a fortune on the best oils, but if you've put a lump of your hard earned cash into a car then I would go the extra few...

    Turbo Oil Return Temperature

May not help but you can see the TD5 turbo return on this picture it seems similar in size, look at the flange which bolts to the turbo, but I didn't measure it as the was no problem.

    Turbo Oil Return Temperature

Looks like you did a good job there. Shouldn't be much pressure on the line it should only be subject to a little back pressure from the crank case , and if it works maybe you can make up the Mk2 improved version. Good luck

    Turbo Oil Return Temperature

The inner solid pipe is usually barbed for grip but may come out, I found a picture but it's not great.

    Turbo Oil Return Temperature

Those ends are crimped by the sleves, do you have a small grinder like a Dremel to carefully split the crimps along the axis of the pipe then try to pull out the fittings from the flexible section?

    Turbo Oil Return Temperature

I used to work with industrial turbo compressors and localized temperature at the bearings was much higher than the oil temperatures in the sump, but of course they were not driven by an expansion turbo in the exhaust system. I think that 220 ought to be sufficient, especially if that is given...

Waxoyl - thought it was water resistant!

Was it always duff or is it another story of the elf and safely people taking everything that made it work out of stuff. I find hammerite is rubbish now. Red oxide is nothing like the old red lead. Most wood preserves (that you can buy) are useless I know a painter who has stopped quoting...

At Last The Big TD5 job

James posted while I was writing something similar You could calculate the stack by putting a straight edge across the pistons and find how far the peak in the center is below the pistons crown, then work out how far the pistons extends above the block, then measure on the head how far the...

At Last The Big TD5 job

Not sure what that is, but if the the injectors were striking the pistons then I'm sure the injector tips would be damaged and they would have let you know. Why not do the check I did If you check all the cylinders it tells you how far the pistons extend above the block, you then know if...

    TD5 cut out won’t start

On the Defender there are yellow relays under the drivers seat, one is the main relay, you might check the bonnet switch also which is made when you close the bonnet.

    TD5 cut out won’t start

Do you get the yellow light on the dash when you first turn on the ignition? If not then probably the main relay I agree with the previous message, it's worth pulling out the relays under the drivers seat and pushing them back firmly.

Look an Android unit for Freelander 2 2009

I have one in my FL2, and to be honest is is not what I call solid and reliable, I use tomtom navigator and i have a reversing camera on it but it can be temperamental, and seizes up sometimes. I managed to do an update to the system which seems to help a bit, but dont expect too much.

LR Direct are some kind of independent supplier ( Like Island ) but their parts search is poor and you need part numbers, lately I have had problems with online suppliers and of course everyone says oh yes its due to Corvid 19 https://www.lrdirect.com/home.php I was going to suggest Turner their...

At Last The Big TD5 job

They certainly look poor quality, don’t spoil all you efforts with bolts like these. I had a problem with poor head bolts and ended up removing the head and doing it again with new gasket and bolts, I bought German made bolts from land rover direct and they were far superior. The con rod and...
