The haldex is just the same as the VCU The VCU drives continuously but can slip the haldex freewheels until the ECU pulls in the clutch. One of the reasons put forward for the diff failurs is the way the ECU applies the torque, apparently later software modifies this.

At that milage it would be a good idea to change the water pump while you have it in bits, its driven by the cam belt.
