Think it was only the double VANOS units, such as found on the S52 motor, that had the small filter behind the Allen bolt you could unscrew separately... Then again, I think it was only the double VANOS units that were problematic... The rest of 'em rarely seem to give trouble...

Just got a quote from an Indy (not gonna say which one just yet) to fit a replacement rear diff to my P38... £170 + VAT!!! Now, I thought it was a relatively straightforward job... Undo rear prop UJ, undo calipers, undo hub carrier bolts, pull half shafts out a bit, undo 10 diff bolts, remove...

Just added meself as 4th reserve... :) Bit slow on the uptake I'm afraid... spent the last few days working 16hr days delivering frigdes and washing machines all over Dorsetshire... revisiting some places from t'chippy run, oddly enough...

Was worth braving the cold and mud for :) Although the appeal of having a warm comfy caravan there made it easier :D

T'was a brilliant day - chewin' the fat with Fanny all day long made the dull on-road sections pass by quickly... :) It was a pleasure having him and his little 'un along as ballast! Not sure whether it was the beer or Fanny's circles that was sending me dizzy that night... but he's spot on...
