Just a though re fuel tank location

Funny you should say this, I had the same "issue" I also noted I didn't actually know how much fuel I had left when the gauge said empty, so I waited for the light to come on and then did some miles on low fuel warning light then drained the fuel out into a bucket - I got just under 2 gallons...

Just a though re fuel tank location

Yes, I have dry fitted a Disco tank with the Disco straps, all I need to do is modify the filler location with either a filler neck extension or by totally moving it. I am going to remove the tub in the spring so I will fit it then when I can get in to weld brackets easily.

    90 heater head scratcher

No it isn't. There is a feed into the switch then two switched outputs, either 1 or 2 - 1 goes via a resistor and 2 is direct. The OP's bodged switch probably just went to main motor feed. The variable aspect of the defender heater slider controls the mechanical flap via a bowden cable -...

1999 Defender 90 - failed mot for no catalytic converter. But not fitted from build until 2002

I would be getting the documentation/VIN decode etc. even if it meant going to LR and getting a build/parts print out and go and slam it down in front of them, I wouldn't let them away with it, I would be getting them educated - I'd probably then tell them I won't be using them again and leaving...

    G/box xmember.

Do you have the old x-member? You can cut out the tube section and weld in a a piece of RHS.

    #savethechassis

Are you a welder? Or can you weld to a professional level with guaranteed good welds? You could send it to a steel fabricator for an overhaul. If it was me and I was being mad for a bit, I would take the chassis off, send it for blasting - then see just how bad or not is it. Then make a...

    Is this Bad? TD5 cylinder

Are we looking at the injector seats or what? Do you mean the rough finish to the walls of the head itself, those are casting marks. Whole thing is aluminium alloy poured into a casting sand mould - it gets broken/blown out and rinsed when finished but the roughness you see is the impression of...

What is the AMP output of my alternator

Doesn't quite work like that though - maximum alternator capacity will only be reached at certain RPM or above - tick over is usually only sufficient to output about 1/3 the alternators maximum plated capacity. So if you add big electrical loads the alternator will not keep up at idle, you need...

    Front crank oil seal.

Either will work, just get a good one. Should last another 30 years or 100,000. Twin lip version relies on the contact surface of the crank, where the new second lip sits, being absolutely perfectly clean and rust free - any dirt or rust on the contact surface of the crank and the second lip...

I wouldn't buy the cheapest baulk ring unless I knew exactly who it was making it.

Tow bar options pros and cons

If you have the tow bracket as shown in the first image, you don't have the full 3500Kg capacity now. I remember finding the original spec of that bracket and it wasn't anywhere near the 3500Kg. At the time I remember finding the bracket I would need and it came with far bigger arms that go...

    Aquasolve Fuel Treatment

Just buy branded fuel from the likes of Esso or Shell or BP and be done with it. People like cheap fuel then pay £££ for additives to make it better, just buy the good fuel. Supermarket fuel is poor quality. Older Landy engines will not respond to fuel additives like newer engines can, these...

    Hazards not working. Indicators work.

Switch, it's always the switch! Well nearly always! Note that the indicators and hazard circuit are on separate supplies, so the dual issue makes me think connection at the relay perhaps - or the switch... somewhere AFTER the initial supply from the fuses anyway. The tapping of various...

    ANR2858 eye cross rod

Ooops! The spigot section is to provide lateral strength and ridgidity - if it was just a little short section threaded in you would be in a situation that the whole thing is only being supported over a short distance. The only way I can see to go here is a replacement, good second hand, or...
