Picked up a D90, few questions...

Frankly, I wouldn't even waste my time on a 200tdi - they are a bit clattery and they are now fairly difficult to find a good example - a 300tdi is a little bit more refined - people say things like a 200tdi is easier to work on blah blah - that's a daft comment there is nothing difficult about...

Picked up a D90, few questions...

I think your scrap man has misunderstood the system or he saw you coming! You do get money for cars. I sometimes buy a whole car for certain parts. I just give away the shell and anything else left to a local scrap man with a wagon and removes it. I have never given him a penny, he thanks me...

200TDI should be better than that. The diff being locked needs investigation, could be there is a prop missing - could be something broken and by locking the diff it circumvents the broken shaft or diff etc. Diff lock and the slowness are probably not related - diff locked is an issue.

    90 chassis

On the face of it, electric is great - it's seemingly clean, it's quiet and better performance should be possible (not all cars will have Tesla motors I don't suppose!), but the whole thing is a massive gimmick. 2 types of people get electric cars, someone who just wants a car and it happens to...

    Speedo out.

How much out are we talking? Bear in mind that speedo's are always set to over-read by manufacturers. The data above is just the standard Land Rover data I found somewhere. It is useful enough as a reference for working out which one is which even if not dead on for speeds.

    90 chassis

It is not going to happen like that. I can see a point where almost everyone is electric and they leave the remaining odd diesel or petrol alone - getting fuel might become a bit more difficult/expensive but I honestly do not see a total end of petrol/diesel. Now if it does happen, then go...

If you buy an OEM part do you expect to get a genuine part in a none genuine box?

Turn it over, does it say Rice Krispies or Cornflakes?

    Speedo out.

Yes it will do that... the speedo % difference will be exponential not linear. If it is 5% out for example at 10mph that is only 0.5mph - at 70mph that 5% will be 3.5mph. So if you can work out the percentage difference you can work out what speedo drive size you need.

    Speedo out.

There are different speedo drive gear tooth counts available. FRC3310, 3311,3312,3313 etc. which is 20,21,22 & 24 teeth respectively. Which way is it out? Fast or slow?

    TD5 Starting Issues

TD5's are a pig when it comes to air in the system. You did the fuel filter then this happened, from personal experience and other members experiences it could be a porous filter head, you have disturbed it and now it is letting in air, they sometimes crack - again the filter change may have...

    ARGH!!! NO BRAKES!!!

This sounds like you have multiple issues, the most serious of which is the lack of braking and soft pedal, which I am fairly certain will be a master cylinder issue - based on what you have told us, if that was happening to me, there would be no question about it, I would be ordering a new...

    Springs & Shox's Recomendation 110 TD5

Go full standard replacement of good brand. No point in anything else. You are using your landy for what it was designed to do. People love to toss their cash down the drain for pointless "upgrades" when half the time the whole setup it already suitable! You will notice a difference on your old...

    Boomslang fun and games

I think so, my 90 is 1990 so I only have the bulkhead fuse-box but by the 300tdi they had some other fuses and the fuseible links. I'd check the stud is live first, if it is lie then assume fault lies within the Boomslang wiring, if the stud is dead then we are talking fusible link I would think.

    Boomslang fun and games

Do you have a multi-meter - is this stud still live? It depends what Defender year you have. TD5 under drivers seat. Not sure where on a 300TDI - but I seem to remember it was next to the coolant reservoir.

    Boomslang fun and games

Not sure which landy you have but if later model, did you blow the alternator fuseable link? Do the rest of the electrical systems still work as normal?
