    Custom battery box...

Has anyone done this? My battery box has finally given up the ghost, nice big crack right across the back side and now sitting on the chassis rail. I was about to order a new one but I then remembered that I would like to put my diesel heater in there too, I tried it earlier this year but...

    Defender 90 alarm issue (still)!

Bit of a thinking aloud moment here, but it sounds like the mircoswitch thinks the door is open, so it auto unlocks again thinking maybe you are going to lock yourself out.

    Is it that bad?

It is not good. If I had a garage I wouldn't even touch the complicated stuff, I'd do normal mechanical stuff, brakes, suspension, exhausts, belts and oil, clutches - I can order the parts, fit them and get paid. As soon as I take in a mysterious fault from your average customer with no good...

    Is it that bad?

Depends how they tried to look for it, if limp is on then a code is recorded, could simply be they didn't have the correct diagnostics. I've got dealer level VW/Audi diagnostics, which show things that Snap-On or Bosch stuff won't show, I've had a Landy or two on diagnostics too and the LR...

    Is it that bad?

Get a V8 with electronic ignition and a good alarm and physical defences and a tracker and it won't be so easy to steal!

    Damned Wipers..

Ah some movement then - can you hear the motor straining to move? If you run the wipers with the cabin light on does it dim down quite a bit when you flick the switch (indicating a high load on the motor) the fuse of course could now have blown too - I'd check that first, then put the wipers on...

    Damned Wipers..

I assume it will not run on any speed? It could be a frazzled contact on the wiper park track but usually with that you can get them to run on constant but stranger things have happened. It is not too bad to get into the motor and check it all out. Could even be a bad earth.

    Lucas prince of darkness

It will almost certainly be an earth issue - probably something to do with the tell-tale earths but could be the main earths at the sidelights are bad and the whole lot is trying to earth through a circuit it should not! For example, with shared earths, if the earth becomes high impedance due...

    Short Circuit 300tdi

That could simply be an indication that your main battery was so flat that a large current was being drawn by it from the second one like a charger. If you took two similar batteries, one discharged and one fully charged and connected them the net result would be the 2 batteries would equalise...

    Galv Bulkhead

Hot dip and Electroplated are both "Galvanized" which is why I am always careful to spec "Hot-dip Galvanized". Yes you can hot dip over electro - it's still zinc.

    Front wheel bearings water ingress

Officially, from the Land Rover Operating Instruction Manual, after wading you are advised to change all lubrication fluids! The seals are designed to stop a fairly heavy oil/grease from coming out, during use they warm up, quenching them in cold water will cause a sudden cooling which will...

    Core plugs!

How badly is it leaking? Where is it leaking from exactly? Weep around the lip or what? A smear externally of something might work if it is small enough a leak, but to be honest if it is small enough then I would probably just run with it and keep lots of coolant (mix up a weak solution of the...

    Core plugs!

No. Do it properly. Big bodging bodge that would be! K seal likes to feck other things up and makes a hell of a mess when you come to change coolant or do a water pump etc. Friend put it in his car for a slight leak in his rad - car stopped going up to full temp - stat was clogged silly - and...

    Core plugs!

Much as @swisstoe has said. I usually take a small screwdriver (one I have actually ground the end down a bit to make it thicker at the tip, you can also use a metal carrot drift ) and use that to knock in the bottom of the coreplug leaning against the lip of the plug itself - reasonable but...

    Battery

Assuming these 3 batteries have sat in your garage unused and not needed is there any point? Do you need them? I'd take them to the scrappy. It is possible to fix them - but to do it properly is going to cost you a few quid. The chances are the plates are caked in lead sulphate which is what...

    Oh no.....

Indeed - I'd whip the injectors out and with a new get of GENUINE O-rings & washers clean and refit everything. It's really not a difficult job.
  18. D

    Oh no.....

It depends which seal - there are two "seals", an O-ring and a Copper washer. A fairly common issue on the TD5 engine really, the O-ring seals between the fuel rail and the injector, if damaged or scored diesel can blow up past them and into the top of the head.
