    200,000 mile club

Well done! My 90 is due to tip 200,000 in about 400 miles I think, at this rate that may take nearly 6 months but I'll resurrect your post and post my picture when it does! It is almost worth going for a drive just to get it there!

Really leaky rear end - pic any ideas?

First thing a Land Rover owner should do when identifying leaks is stick your finger into it and sniff! If it was oil back there I would be surprised. Hopefully you don't have a "petrol tank" as it is a 300tdi! The leak may be from the top as there are breathers and the sender and at this age...

    2.5NA Injection pump?

Does anyone have working spare I could have? Ironically I gave my spare to someone on this forum about 5-6 years ago and I remember him saying he didn't use it in the end, if you are reading this and you still have it in good condition could I get it back or could someone else help me out with one?

    Hi - Lo selector

Yes, I tried to find the codes for you and in doing so I found this on Ashcrofts site for you: If you have the diff lock stud on your unit you will only require the linkage parts, to determine this you will need to find the transfer case serial number and check it starts with either 41D, 42D or...

    Hi - Lo selector

Ah right, so you don't even have the high/low selector working - sorry, all the images sort of show clearly the diff not connected but the hi-lo is obscured. So basically from the short gearstick on top of the main gearbox remote there should be two linkages, one pivots on the side of the main...

    Hi - Lo selector

There should be a little lever attached to the piece of threaded shaft you can see sticking out of that round plate with 3 bolts holding it on. However, there is a chance you do not have diff lock because there were periods and models of Discovery that didn't have diff lock. I think the way it...

    Viscous Fan

On the point of the fan, I never ran the viscous on my 300tdi Disco and it was used as a daily driver for getting to work in rush hour traffic and I have never had a Viscous fan fitted to my Defender (I don't even have electric fans anymore as I took those off for a rad swap and never got round...

    Viscous Fan

The 4 inches of exhaust pipe sitting on my workbench can attest to that!

    Viscous Fan

[QUOT They don't sit that far forward! Everything behind it would end up in the totally wrong place too if it was that far forward and if your engine jumped that gap then that would be the least of your worries!

new here and looking for advice please....

Depends on your budget and the quality of work you wish to complete. For me it would be the brakes first - however, before proceeding ascertain if perhaps you would be better restoring the whole axle or getting a good replacement complete with brakes (I fitted a brand new axle to the front of...

    Burnt out light switch

This is not the way to proceed in my opinion and the Auto Electrician should know that - this is like flooring over dry-rot. Either, you bought a Britpart switch and it burnt out because it was rubbish, or there is a fault with the lighting circuits. I would want to know what exactly is...

    Viscous Fan

It's not just as simple as that, my suspicion is, that as it is 1987, it was probably one of the 2.5's petrol or diesel, it could have been a V8 I guess but then it would not have had the LT77 gearbox but I guess it could have been changed too! So lets assume it was a 2.5 engine with an LT77...

    Viscous Fan

I don't think they did, I think it was intended. I suspect their plan was a 300tdi the earlier further back position. What length of bell-housing on the LT77? If it was planned it would be a shorty. The LT77 behind a 300tdi is not a great idea.

    300tdi belt squeel

Thanks, of course, they just use the same 7PK-1580 code but it's a Gates belt! I always liked Gates stuff so I will give them a whirl next time for my serp belt!

Any tips on removing the front diff

Right enough, I was forgetting that whole aim of this exercise was to extract the diff, not the hub assembly, however, I suspect a gasket will be needed - I've never reused a gasket on a mating like this.

    300tdi belt squeel

Yes. Might just be the way Gates make the belts - I have been in their factory watching them being made and tested! Do you have a Gates part number?

    300tdi belt squeel

I think they measure the belts on the contact surface diameter so with the lip 52mm would be the 49mm yeah (which is good as your alt will spin faster at idle).

Any tips on removing the front diff

To save a lot of disassembling, just unbolt the swivel from the end of the axle case and pull the whole lot out. If your bolts are rusty and knackered don't bother. It is heavy to do it like this but it saves a lot of time if the bolts comply. Tip, pre-soak them in penetrating oil for a few days...

    300tdi belt squeel

Early 300tdi's had a 61mm alt pulley which took the ERR3287 = 1595mm belt which can also be used on the later 49mm pulley (the tensioner will pull it to the same tension) although it uses the ERR5911 = 1580mm, (using a 1575 will be also be fine, 5mm, the tensioner can take it, not like your are...

    Prop shaft bolts

This is interesting discussion point. I cannot 100% disagree with you James, and I respect your knowledge and experience but bear in mind the mechanics of the fastener. As you say they do use the shouldered bolt as you never want a threaded section of bolt to be in shear, but if they are done...
