P38A What are the plastic lugs on the back of the steering wheel for?

I'm restoring a steering wheel to replace my old tired one. The one I have has a plastic lug missing as shown in the image. When I bought it, I was planning on just swapping the whole black back piece from my old wheel, but I can't for the life of me get it off. Do I need this plastic lug that...

Allow long term users to modify post titles.

Way too time consuming based on how many posts are wrong and would just generate loads of noise for the mods to deal with. If you've ever used stack exchange forums they are managed by site users and it works really well.

Allow long term users to modify post titles.

I spend a lot of my time in the Range Rover section and there's loads of posts where the title doesn't include the car type, e.g. L322, P38 etc. My mild OCD would love to occasionally fix them all so I don't keep entering a post I actually don't care about. Could long term users be given the...

P38A Heater matrix o-ring replacement guide

I wonder if Audi ever wonder why they are selling so many heater cores? They may think it's a dodgy design they have.

Finding source for vibration/lump at idle

Has it always had a lumpy idle in your ownership. Wondering if the previous owner fitted uprated high lift cams. My rover V8 is lumpy at idle die to the cam.

P38A Blend motors installed - heating fixed.

I did my passenger side the other week. Removed the airbag, drilled a hole to unscrew the duct, got angry with the air duct and finally got it out of the way. Cut the cable and re-solders the potentiometer. Reattached with a choc block and works fine now. Planning on doing the drivers side soon...

P38A Should I put a modern touch screen radio in my car? [. . . . and other questions]

P38A Should I put a modern touch screen radio in my car? [. . . . and other questions]

As I understand, with the android units you can tell it what the steering wheel buttons are so they can work with any steering button on any car. Unless I'm missing somehting. As for line out, I've not figured this out yet, but sounds quality is quite low on my priorities. I think I'm unusual...

P38A Should I put a modern touch screen radio in my car? [. . . . and other questions]

I was going to go with Joying as I like the ribbon screen connection as it has less constraints, but at the moment I'm leaning towards EKIY. They use the same hardware as Joying, and the reviews on EKIY put them on par with Joying byt they are a lot cheaper. Plenty of very good reviews for them...

P38A Should I put a modern touch screen radio in my car? [. . . . and other questions]

I just want to be clear, you don't think I should fit one?

P38A Should I put a modern touch screen radio in my car? [. . . . and other questions]

I do tend to agree. I guess what I'm trying to convince myself of is if the tech contrast will look minimal enough to justify the benefits. One benefit of the change is whilst I do like the look of the P38 dash, I think it's a little busy with so many buttons that the screen cleans it up a bit...

P38A Should I put a modern touch screen radio in my car? [. . . . and other questions]

I really can't decide whether to put a modern Android touch screen radio in my 2000 P38 or not. On one hand, I would really like a reversing camera, DAB radio, decent modern built in sat-nav and a Bluetooth connection to my phone for calls and music. Anything else it would offer would just be a...

    P38A Slow to change gear

My 4.0 2000 is the only P38 I've ever driven so not sure if the gearbox feel is normal. It's a little slow to change gear. Let say I'm going down a hill, dropping it form D to 2nd It's a good couple of seconds between each gear change. Is this normal? Sometime it's also not as silky smooth as I...

    L322 Wheels On A P38?

Maybe I'm an idiot but I've never torqued a wheel nut. I just do them pretty tight, and then a nudge more for luck. This is probably tighter than 140nm, but nowhere near as tight as they come back from the tyre fitters.

    P38A Insurance prices getting silly

You can't insure a toilet seat in London for £90. Someone will nick it just for the shiny bolts holding it on.

    P38A Insurance prices getting silly

£15 back then in today's money is about £300. I'm guessing the equivalent car today would be a 20 odd year old Mondeo. You could possibly insure that for £300 in some parts of the country. On the inflation thing, it's just number changing, but for good reason. If you have deflation then people...

P38A Rattle when in gear and foot on brake...(SOLVED)

I assume it doesn't matter if you're holding it with the foot brake or the hand brake? My guess it only occurs at a certain RPM which only happen under stationary idle under load. In which case it could be any of the many brackets in the engine bay rattling around. Can you hold it on the hand...

    P38A Insurance prices getting silly

I also found Footman James the cheapest at £550. Adrian Flux wouldn't insure me. Think I was asking for 4000 miles per year, no points, no accidents but living in Croydon which is full of NEDs.

    P38A Simple EAS query

Yep, in the OP he says: "It has done this for a long time and with different valve blocks and driver packs." Sounds like he's replaced almost everything so it's a head scratcher.
