    Wanted Working/Storage Space

Had a couple of break-ins at the lockup recently. Nothing major gone but can't help being paranoid about the cars being stripped/taken. So we're looking for a bit of space in the Coventry area to store and work on a couple of Landys and a few tools. Between us we've got a 90, a 109 and a couple...

    Fitting new front fog lights.

Most front fog lamps are pretty useless. It's why manufacturers started removing them and putting DRLs in the same positions. The question is, do you actually want fog lamps or extra high-beam spotlamps? The two are very different.

    19J cooling

A NDA with the customer gets in the way of that! The basic setup is fairly simple though- air from the turbo passes through a water-cooled heat exchanger, and an electric pump circulates coolant to a small radiator mouted in front of the main one. Means a shorter and more efficient...

    19J cooling

We're tinkering with an engine at work with a water-cooled intercooler. I keep thinking that would be simpler as you only have to route small-diameter water pipes to the front.

    Live feeds from indicators?

Green/white and green/red are the standard Lucas colours for the indicators. Can never remember which is which but for central locking (presumably it flashes the indicators when you lock the car) it won't usually matter.

    13pin towing plug

You currently have just the black 7-pin socket on your car which is why the trailer battery isn't charging (the revese light won't work either.) I have both types of socket on my car- 13 and 7-pin. Means I can tow anything without messing about with adapters which don't always work. The old...

    300tdi Conversion

Rather than extending all the pipes, is it viable to move the radiator back instead? Then everything's in the original position and would all fit together as standard.

    19J cooling

All comes down to space between the engine and rad. Might be a case of dropping the engine in with the original fan fitted, then see how the radiator lines up. The radiator is made for that engine and only a few years old so would be good to make it all fit in and keep a standard cooling setup...

    19J cooling

Electric fan in front of the rad would be doable, but I was hoping to stay engine-driven for simplicity. If there's enough space for an electric fan before the radiator, I might try shifting the radiator forward into that space to make room for the original viscous fan. A big engine-driven fan...

    19J cooling

So what are my options for this conversion? The original viscous coupling works well enough, but will it fit behind a standard rad is the question. I don't want to move the front end forward as I was looking for a standard appearance, so if not, could the radiator be pushed forward slightly in...

Should be painted. Galvanising is better than bare steel, but it works because the zinc corrodes preferrentially to steel. Paint protects the zinc and makes it last longer as well as looking better.

Whats the best engine to use in a tri axle?

Only trouble with a drive-through is that the rearmost prop usually turns the opposite way. Unless the diff on the third axle can be rotated 180 degrees, you'd need to mount the axle upside down. With the Kahn drive-over setup, the gears in the take-off drive mean the 3rd axle is a standard rear...

    Engine loom 200tdi

Fortunately these engines are very simple electrically and they're all standard Lucas colours. First branch: Brown wires with ring terminals all go to the starter motor. These are the main feeds to the battery and the starter motor is used as a junction point. the thick one will end up at the...

Series 2 Free wheeling hubs. Potential daft question

You should be in 2WD on the road anyway. With FWH engaged, the front diff and prop will be turned by the wheels on the road but not connected to the engine unless you engage 4WD high or low. With FWH disengaged, the wheels are disconnected from the drivetrain and the front axle/prop won't rotate...

    Seats & MOT

Side-facing seats aren't testable items on the MOT. So the presence, condition or absence of the seats or seatbelts is irrelevant to the test.

Whats the best engine to use in a tri axle?

Basically a 'drive-over' from the middle diff. There's presumably a gear or chain drive up so the shaft can reach over the top of the diff. A clutch inside the take-off disconnects the drive to the third axle when diff lock is disengaged. So on the road you have 6x4 so all six wheel can turn at...
