    Interior upgrades

I need to refurb the driver's seat base on mine as it's had 20+ years of various arses sliding off it to get out! So the outer edge of the foam is knackered. I also took the sagging headlining down, scraped it back to the fibreglass layer, then brush painted it a pale grey. Give the various...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Got the boot floor welded in over the past couple of days. Today it was time to refit the rear fixed windows which wasn't easy! Stretching the seal around the glass took three of us- one to hold the corners so it didn't roll off, another to pull the seal up and over the fourth corner, and a...

    Wanted Original Disco 1 Radio

Embracing the 1990s with my Discovery. So I'm looking to replace the current head unit (doesn't work properly anyway) with an original cassette radio. Not sure exactly what was fitted originally, but I have the dashboard controls and rear sub/amp, neither of which are connected to anything...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Finished refitting the headlining which I stripped and painted last week, and removed and resealed the sunroofs to the body while it was down. This morning the rusty boot floor was chopped out in preparation for the new one. The arches are still sound but the floor panels either side are a bit...

    Disco 1 mpi project anyone..

Didn't someone put that engine into a Series a few years back? Sounded like a good swap.

Wanted Disco 1 front fog lights

On both of mine the glass front has detached from the back case, and the incoming water/dirt/general road crud has basically dissolved the innards. I think they're supposed to be joined in a (theoretically) watertight manner. I was also considering just removing the lamps and filling the space...

Wanted Disco 1 front fog lights

The frames are in surprisingly good shape given the state of the lights. So should be able to salvage them.

Wanted Disco 1 front fog lights

I have a 1998 Disco 1 and the front fog lamps have fallen to bits- they're the ones which are set into the lower part of the bumper not bolted to it. Looking for a replacement set.

    Disco 1 No fog lights

Got a couple of issues to sort on my 1998 3-door before the MOT. Apart from welding in the usual places, the rear fog lights don't work. (I'm a bit new to Discos so bear with me.) The tell-tale on the switch doesn't light up either. I've checked the fuses and they're all good, so where next? Is...

Inward Facing Fold up Seats - Seatbelts 90

Side-facing seats aren't a testable item on the MOT test, seat belts or not. My 90 had all four with factory-fitted belts, and several MOT testers ignored them completely. Like reversing lamps or front fog lamps, they just aren't on the list.

    Light Position

Spot lamps are legally "optional main beam headlamps" and basically, you can have as many of them as you want at whatever height you want. They must only come on when on main beams, but the little marker light some of them have is allowed to come on with your sidelights. I wouldn't go too mad...

Inward Facing Fold up Seats - Seatbelts 90

In summary: Lap belts only in this type of seat. 3-points are only of use on a forward or rear-facing seat- going sideways the forces on the shoulder strap are all in the wrong direction and it may do more harm than good. If kids need a booster seat, legally they can't sit there. They aren't...

    New tyres, summer or winter

My regular car has a set of Barum Polaris 3 on steel wheels which I run in the winter. Huge difference in any sort of ice or snow compared to the summer tyres. There's a mini roundabout at the bottom of the hill near me that I was regularly sliding round before I fitted the winter tyres...

    New tyres, summer or winter

Winter tyres grip better in summer than summer tyres do in winter if that makes sense. Only issue is that winters will wear down quickly in the summer. In Germany they have to use winter tyres between October and March, and apparently some people do leave winters on all year round rather than...

    Cooling Fan

The simple answer is don't, apart from specific circunstances. The original viscous fan moves more than enough air when needed, and is very low resistance when not needed. Even an old-fashioned fixed fan is unloaded when you're moving forwards and takes less load. If it's not, the viscous...

Best second hand car seats for my 90

Take your original seats and refurbish them by replacing the internal foam (and covers if they need it) and painting the frames. When the foam isn't falling to bits they are quite good, and certainly better than bodging in other seats that don't fit properly and/or impede access to the battery...

    Split Charge Relay

I would get a generic caravan relay for the towbar and use one of the switched contacts on this to switch a more substantial relay which links the batteries. Fuses on each battery's positive as power could be going in either direction. Use the towbar relay's outputs for their intended purpose as...

RHD to LHD conversion - 2006 Defender 110 CSW

Talk to JE Engineering in Coventry (UK). They've been doing R->L conversions for a few years now on tdci Defenders so may be able to help.

    MOT requirements - lights??

I've come across a couple of twin-tank conversions, including an overland camper where there were two additional tanks along each side as well and the original rear tank. The simplest way to do it is to have the engine always drawing fuel from the main tank. When it gets empty, an electric pump...

    Front seat retrim kits

I did just the seat bases in my 90 as the backs were alright. It's the base that gets the most abuse with decades of drivers' arses sliding in and out. The rest section at the side crumbles and disintegrates. Makes a big difference and makes you wonder why people waste their time fitting random...
