    Residual transfer oil leak?

To do a proper job, the box needs removing. I have read that it can be slid back enough to poke the shaft out sufficiently to replace the o ring but I’d be inclined to just take the box out and do the job on a workbench. I have to do mine soon as I fitted the disco transfer box in haste, without...

    "Randy" 109 station wagon

This is looking like a great build! Its amazing what can be done on a budget.......I once bought a series 11A as an unfinished project for £170. It had a new chassis and hood. Most of the rest of it was in boxes!! All in it owed me about £700 when finished! Id love to find another!! Keep...

Altenator ? connections 300 tdi into military wiring loom ??

This is bugging me now because I can’t remember what my own alternator wiring is!! According to google.... On the alternator- Thick brown wire goes to B+ Thin brown wire goes to D+ (and is connected to the charge light) If there is a white wire, it goes to the W terminal and is used...

Altenator ? connections 300 tdi into military wiring loom ??

My 90 isn’t here atm or I would go and check the alternator connections, but iirc there is a thick brown wire on the large terminal, a thin brown wire and a thin white wire (can’t remember what terminals are marked up as for those 2 wires though). I do know that the charge light didn’t light up...

Altenator ? connections 300 tdi into military wiring loom ??

I’m fairly certain that I used the engine loom from the na when I did my conversion, and the 300tdi alternator connected up exactly the same as the n/a one....I’m sure I didn’t have to change a thing.

    N/A air filter and cannister on a 300tdi ???

I use the n/a filter and canister on my 300tdi converted 90. I haven’t had any issues and it seems to pull well enough...... I doubt it’s any worse than any of the other offerings and before it was fitted, I used a cone filter off eBay (like chavs use) as a temporary measure until I sorted the...

    Project No. 2 - 1969 series 2A 88inch

This is going to be an amazing Landy when it’s finished! My only concern is that those wings are almost too pretty to put a cup of coffee on! You’ll have to make some colour coded coasters:D And that engine bay............gorgeous! Great thread!

Metal found in sump. Should I be worried? Photos

That looks like valve stem caps. Remove the rocker cover and have a look to see if some are missing. It’s not that uncommon ( my 300 had some similar debris in the sump) They are easy to fit new ones - slacken off the rocker and new caps can be dropped onto the top ov the valve stem. The bigger...

    LT230 RTV sealant

Thanks folks! Can I just ask one more question? Do you let the goo skin over before assembly or just slap it on and bolt it up tight? Cheers again, Rich

    Fitting power steering

I don’t think the box matters particularly. The biggest problem I think will be the pump mount (which iirc is part of a very rare alternator bracket), and crank pulley. I can’t remember very well but I think parts from a 200tdi may fit but don’t hold me to that. This thread on another forum may...

Thankyou, JM! :) It appears I may be over-thinking this job! Just don’t want to make a habbit if removing the transfer box! Cheers Rich

    LT230 RTV sealant

Hi all, I have spent 2 days, without much success, researching the best jizz to use to re-seal my transfer boxes. It appears to be a later one, using sealant instead of gaskets and has many weeps, leaks and drips. The box was fitted in haste last week and I will have to remove it again to fix...

    Ern Lake Jack

I have a discovery bottle jack behind the seat in my 90. At home I use a trolley jack. I’ve heard the jacks out of sprinter vans are good on land rovers as they have a cradle for the axle to sit in.

    Residual transfer oil leak?

I would say that if the whole box has been resealed, it should not have anywhere near enough residual oil on it to cause a drip. They’ve either used crap seals, gaskets etc, or damaged one (or more) when fitting. It’s easily done......I fitted a new, Corteco input shaft seal on my transfer box...
