Can you not remove the metal shrouds from inside the car .. confess I've never needed to try. If you can then just pull the rods inwards as suggested by Ratae .. I think they should move W/O needing to release the catch? There have been many instances when badly adjusted catches have disengaged...

Accurate info re. the function of the various vents. The cubby box on the right was the original location for the radio on earlier model years.

There will also be a symbol on the air/heat distribution slider, but I can't remember what it looks like as it's 2 decades since I owned a RRC (3.9L) with AC.

Difficult to answer without seeing the components, but Classics fitted with AC have four vents whereas those without (like my '87 Vouge) have only the centre two. Happy New Year to you too.

Set the rattle gun to a lower torque setting, so it just spins the nuts up tight enough to safely drop the car onto it's wheels ?

Having used the rattle-gun they are supposed to re-check the torque with a calibrated wrench. F..k..g cowboys :mad:

I had a similar problem with a local branch of F1 years ago. I discovered the gross over-tightening when I did the same as Anaconda, prior to a road trip. Wrote a pithy letter to the centre's manager & ended up with a voucher for a free major service which I eventually redeemed for another car...

Too right! My recent experience has been ignition components .. green/white boxes labelled Lucas (made in Turkey) & even the old fashioned red/black boxes labelled the same, even emblazoned with the old Lucas symbol (made in China) So just who are the manufacturers of 'genuine' (aka overpriced)...

I can see where you are coming from, but that doesn't explain why the RHD specs. are the same for both sides .. after all the components you refer to (& the driver) are also on one side of the car.
