Late to the party I know, but I have done this to a 3.5efi & agree with Henry .. no perceivable effect on performance & I found that a slight increase in ignition advance was possible when using 95 octane fuel when the 'book' says 97.

Agreed. Just out of interest did you get that voltage reading shortly after charging the battery or an hour or so later, as a freshly charged battery needs to 'settle' for at least an hour before you (can) take an accurate reading. Either way, as Data says 12.4 isn't good from a charged...

Good advice to the OP Henry, but I must take issue with your assertion that the 3.5 efi is gutless. With a lineage dating back to the 1960's the unit is not in the league of modern LR products, but with only 170 bhp (when new) you can't expect anything else .. however a good one is a torquey...

Land Rover products have invariably leaned one way or another, even back in the days of leaf springs & can do so with those new-fangled coils as well :rolleyes: That & corrosion are synonymous with the breed, the latter apparently has still to be eradicated.
