    VCU Torque test results

Gosh that's interesting! Thanks for sharing. I checked mine the other day (a warmer day than the last time I checked it) and the result was much the same - maybe a bit better at 48 seconds (again with 5kg at 1.2m). In view of what you've said, I'll keep an eye on it regularly.

    Freelander 1 TD4, pre-facelift fuel filter(s)

Seriously, happy to post my now useless filter to anyone who wants it - no good to me now!

    Freelander 1 TD4, pre-facelift fuel filter(s)

OK guys, thanks for the replies. I now officially feel a right *&^$% ... It is, indeed, a pump... Pssssst! Anybody want a nice, unused, Mahle inline filter for a 2002 onwards TD4? Free to a good home!

    Freelander 1 TD4, pre-facelift fuel filter(s)

Yes, it's in that plastic holder where you've written "pump", just under the ECUs. Several online sites list it as a filter for mine. I've never actually seen the pump! I'd always assumed it was in the tank, like most cars. I'm going to feel a right *&^$% if I go out to do the job and find...

    Freelander 1 TD4, pre-facelift fuel filter(s)

Thanks that's useful to know. Will have a look under mine in a bit.

    Freelander 1 TD4, pre-facelift fuel filter(s)

No, it's definitely a filter. I've bought the replacement and that' definitely a filter too. All I can think, is that it just seems to be Landrover going absolutely nuts with filtration. Not, in itself a bad thing, of course, just surprised me.

    Freelander 1 TD4, pre-facelift fuel filter(s)

Could someone throw a bit of light on the fuel filter situation on the TD4 for me, please? In particular a late 2001 car. It appears to have TWO fuel filters, just for the engine. There's a conventional screw-in canister one, which I've already changed, and a long, thin, aluminium inline one...

    Freelander 1 Aircon advice

Thanks guys. Yes, I'd take it to a proper place with the right gear, but can't really justify it during lockdown. I was wondering about having a go myself, but probably worth waiting.

    Freelander 1 Aircon advice

The aircon threads I've look at, seem quite old. When I first got the car, there was gas in it, but no aircon. That turned out to be the wire to the clutch on the compressor which had fatigued and snapped with engine movement. Once fixed it worked (sort-of!) last Summer with a bit of help from...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Sorry, are we back on screen washers here, or are we still on luggage area hydroponics?

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well if it's anything like mine, at least she won't have to water them!

What have you done to your Freelander today

Probably doesn't qualify for the "what have you done to your Freelander today" board, 'cause I'm only thinking of doing it, but I ought to use this enforced period of inactivity to take the back bumper off and try to fix the damaged rear quarter panel behind it. I cut the same bit off a...

Freelander 1 VCU bearings - which way round?

Thanks Hippo. Looks like mine went on the same way as yours (although the pressed steel "seals" ar facing the opposite way). Not taking them off again now though!

Freelander 1 VCU bearings - which way round?

Thanks. I think that's the same way mine were.

Freelander 1 VCU bearings - which way round?

Does it matter which way round the VCU bearings face? I notice the rubber moulding on which they sit, has an "open" side and a "Closed" side. I did mine this weekend and put them on facing the same way as they came off (i.e. with the "open" side of the rubber facing the VCU and damper at each...

    Running a Td4 with a straight-through CAT?

Yes, for a diesel vehicle of that age, it's just the smoke meter test. That's a pretty crude test, to be honest. Obviously removing the cat will make its emissions worse though, but unlikely to have any effect on smoke.

    Running a Td4 with a straight-through CAT?

I've had superb service from these guys in the past: https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/everyexhaustpartlimited They made me up a stainless centre box for mine when it failed. I welded it on to the back of the OE cat, rather than replacing the whole cat-and-centre box assembly.

Freelander 1 Air Con Valve inserts needed.

That's good. Just seems a lot to pay for a Schrader valve. (Cheap for an aircon fix though). Odd that they failed. I don't think I've ever seen a failed one before. Do you reckon someone has been putting nasty substances in the system? I know there are some so-called "leak sealers" that...
