    rebuilding gearbox question

So I have a 2a gearbox (inside a 3 cover). I am replacing the thrust washer (as the old one was a few thou thinner than it should be) and also the washer with the blue arrow in the picture, which has a tab. At the moment, the washer tab stops the washer going past the point marked with the red...

    removing ignition switch lock barrel

I can't remove the lock barrel. Luckily i do have the key for this lock - so i have pushed the pin in a fair way, turned the lock to position 1. I was hoping the barrel would then come out, but it doesn't seem to want to move. What I am doing wrong?

    mainshaft rear bearing removal

p.s. can someone look at the attached photo and confirm which gearbox that layshaft comes from (II or III)? I need to be certain which it is if i do need to buy a replacement (part no 264250 i think for II). Many thanks

    mainshaft rear bearing removal

That's a really good shout. On investigation, i think you can see in the photos: 1) the spot where the inner pin should be (and is no longer, so is likely as you suggest to be the cause of the gouge) 2) the outer pin is now misshaped, so i cannot ease the washer off. Can this be fixed? Can i...

    replacement bulkhead

In the end, i have found a second hand bulkhead from someone local, and it just needs a bit of work on it to make it OK.

    mainshaft rear bearing removal

and when i took the shaft apart, i found the bush had broken in two (which i believe is a common issue), and there was a gouge mark where some grit had gone in. I don't know whether this would have contributed to the rattle from the gearbox i heard, in 1st/2nd.

how to remove lock barrel from door lock

I am trying to remove the barrel from this door lock - the PO had lost the keys, so i plan to replace this barrel and the one in the tailgate. Anyway, i can't work out how to remove it. I read somewhere that i need to push the pin out. Is that the pin in this photo? i f so, it doesn't seem to...

    mainshaft rear bearing removal

thanks for reply. You suggestion helped: rather than pulling the bearing off, i pushed the shaft off with a small press, after a bit more heat. i will go look at layshaft now. cheers

    mainshaft rear bearing removal

I have a series 3 Landy, but i have a feeling my gearbox innards are series 2 (as i can't see any synchro for 1st/2nd). Regardless, the front bearing was well shot, which i think was the cause of the rattle i had when i ran the gearbox, so I have replaced both front bearings. It seems sensible...

    door handle locks

I want to put locks on my doors (drivers, passengers and the tail). The photo shows one of the existing door handles, and part of a door. I did have a call with Paddocks, and I was asked whether there was a pre-drilled hole in the door (which i was told was important if i wanted to add a lock)...

    glazing seal for windscreen

I am thinking of using a dum dum like tape between the glass and the frame and butyl tape between glass and trim.

    glazing seal for windscreen

I have removed the glass from my 2 part series 3 windscreen: 1) to make it easier to clean up the frame 2) there was evidence that someone had tried to fix some leaks, by the presence of some extra sealant slapped around the edges. So I thought it would be good to remove the glass, clean...

    replacement bulkhead

....but back to my question, where is the best place to get a bulkhead?

    replacement bulkhead

I have replaced the chassis, have the nice new one from Richards in place. Old one is cut up into a rusty pile.

    replacement bulkhead

My plan was to 1) get new Richards chassis in place, sort out wheels, brakes and suspension 2) get replacement bulkhead in place (as old one would need every panel rebuilt!) 3) rebuild gearbox and install 4) get engine re-bored, rebuilt and installed 5) the rest. I have done 1). My plan has...

    Lucas headlight sealed beam questions

Whilst I know these have the power of a couple of candles, I do like the idea of saving these as they are original. I have 2 questions. Is it possible to undo something on this grommet (see photos) – at the moment it does not want to separate, and I don’t want to break it – but I would like...

    how old is my gearbox

The id pressed into the side of the main gearbox says S 25104156 D. I can't work out from this whether this is the original gearbox or a newer replacement. Can't find a website that tells me.

    materials to repair dash

Both the top and the middle dash are in need of repair. For the top dash, i need to fill in the lost foam across a wide section in the bottom/left side, and then recover the whole with new black vinyl. The middle dash has a lot of rot and rust in the metal frame, but i am hoping to reuse the...
