Guilt by association and section 59 tickets

It seems that can only be used against the vehicle involved or suspected vehicle. However, it could certainly be used against you if you were rescuing someone. That said, if you informed the land owner or even the Police of your intentions before setting off you'd probably be safe. The Police...

I'd pull the delay timer and leave overnight and see if anything drops in the first instance.

    Park brake not working

If you bought from a dealer I would advise against doing anything to it, just take it back. Engine and drive-train is guaranteed for 6 months by law. The MoT situation is more serious but give them a chance to put it right ... Then report to DVLA.

    P38A Diagnostic device

Have you downloaded RAVE yet? You'll need that. With the brakes the starting point is usually a full flush and bleed exactly as per RAVE and make sure all 4 ABS sensors are pushed fully hone while you do it. Also check no teeth missing. +1 on Nanocom.

Have you had the sump off? Has the o-ring on the oil filter pickup failed?

P38 DSE loss of power when driving

#4 fine tunes the injection timing by moving the fuel quantity servo in the top of the pump. With it unplugged the car runs on default values taken from the crank timing. The new injector may just do the same but I guess it is cheaper than a new FIP so worth a try.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Replaced a rear indicator with one off the scrapper. This is the first bulb failure I have ever had and looking at how the orange has peeled off the bulb I think they've done pretty well. They're certainly over 12 years old, possibly 20!

P38 DSE loss of power when driving

Check the FIP static timing has been set correctly. Also that the lift pump is delivering enough fuel as per Wammers post in the Technical Section. You might get lucky with one of those being out. Otherwise I suspect it is look out for a refurbed FIP or a 994 one on eBay.

P38A EV Conversion / Hybrid conversion - Pie in the sky thinking

In hub motors sounds like a lot of sprung weight? I realise we're talking a 4x4 and not a sports car but might be even worse handling than it already is?

P38 DSE loss of power when driving

If it is the original FIP then I would say it needs refurbing.

    P38A P38 rattle at idle

+1 on heatshields. The one under the driver's seat tends to rot through the shock washers and drop onto the exhaust and rattle.

    Other Smart alternators

Maybe! I rang Jaguar but the guy just said my alternator was obselete so no joy there. I suspect with mine being a 2001 it may not even be a smart regulator. Again, I asked Jag but he didn't know as he mainly worked on Land Rovers. He gave me some part numbers but I haven't had much luck with...

P38A Unrepairable EAS fault after side steps fitted?

On the twin pipe it just goes straight down from the OSR with a flexi to the brake and then the usual hard-line goes behind the tank across to the NSR and then a flexi down to the brake there. Doesn't bother with the pipe across the axle at all.

    Other Smart alternators

Oh, bugger. You need an oscilliscope. "The signal from the ECU to the alternator should be a square wave pattern that will change with load request. “If there is no change in the pattern this signifies no request from the ECU, and further investigation is now required on the vehicle.”
