Kepp the pump close to the tank as they don't like sucking, and have the regulator as close to the engine as you can, so that for the majority of the run you've got the full capacity of the pump and it just drops the pressure at the end to give the needle valve an easier life

Grind a slot down one side with a long die grinder, obviously take care not to go through at any point, it's actually surprisingly clear when you've gone right through the liner at any one point, do that all the way up and down on one side and it'll go pop and crack any few little bits you miss

By just running it up to temperature I suspect you mean holding it at fast idle stationary or even worse idle stationary, if this is the case then the new rings wouldn't have had anywhere near enough cylinder pressure to get them to bite into the bores and bed in, now it's all glazed I suspect...

Fully agree with this part^, and about using the pipe cutter and let the die clean out the centre of the hole for that matter If your having to do research and ask about what to get and even just things like not knowing you don't need a bender for 3/16 cupro pipe then pay someone else to do it
